todays mad fettle
I hope you all have ear plugs.....
[cut and paste :

into a browser window and see what happened to an early tuono exhaust when it met my falco....
(yes the can is shorter, yes it has very little inside it and yes, it is a tad loud...)

before crying last night I did get a chance to ride the bike
major notes about the two into one conversion
It pulls like a steam train - as in noticeably quicker through to 50 mph - and is easier I think around town
the map is wrong - lots of back firing when closing the throttle
( i will be changing to a tuono map later today)
it sets off car alarms :)
worth while doing - I think so,for me = but wait till the new exhaust arrives!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
Pete - I have a major backfiring problem too. I was out the other night with the local forum and after dark, those following were enjoying the sight of 2ft long blue flames shooting out the back.
Seems to happen at about the same point that I get my rough running - at almost exactly 3000 rpm - within a very small window (The rev range for the backfiring is slightly wider - maybe 2700 to 3500 rpm).
This is Soooooo annoying as it coincides with pootling through town speeds ... where you want it to be smooth and not to be banging away like a belt-fed mortar (thanks for that one Backmarker).
I've reset the TPS, I've synchronised the TBs, I've tried different maps in the PCIII - all to no avail.
If you can find something that works, please let me know!
A while back I even ran it without the PCIII but it didn't help - though I will try that again as I've made a few changes.
One thing I have noticed is that PCIII maps vary wildly in this area (3000 rpm with small throttle openings). Some add a lot of fuel, others take a lot of fuel out. It seems to me that the Rotax may, for some reason, be particularly finicky at this speed - maybe varying from bike to bike (wonder what effect different fuel pressures have)
Anyway, I'm baffled at the moment.
Could you confirm whether your (bike's) backfiring (don't want to know about any personal backfiring issue) is restricted to a particular rev range and whether it's the same as mine?
If you solve it, please let me know .... I'll do the same for you.
Cheers

Mine runs as rough as anything at very small throttle openings at about 3000 rpm (smooth as a silk above and below ... well maybe not silk - it is a v-twin). the backfiring is on a closed throttle (or nearly closed) as it passes through this rev range.
BTW it's not air leaks - I fitted the 2into1 system, got the backfiring so I took it all off and refitted it - then did it all again AND bonded the joints between all of the sections with high temp silicone sealant.
I'm hoping it's overfuelling but maps I've tried so far don't help. I do want to get a custom map done ... but I don't want to waste my money if there is some other underlying problem.
Can't think of what might cause it but wondered whether there is some strange electrical problem that is stopping it firing at these particular revs .... but as I say, I can't think of what would cause this.

If there's noise but no flames it's air leaks, if there's flame, you have a fuelling issue of some kind..
If fuel were cheap I'd say not worry as it looks awesome..
but...

Pity I cant get hold of Jorge. He'd most probably have the answer straight away.

Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly
Yeah - but fuel economy has improved greatly since the iridiums went in - so maybe I'll live with it - I can also use the bike as a mobile toaster.
(Nah - it's the rough running at town cruising speeds that's annoying the hell out of me .... and the backfiring must be annoying everyone else).
I'll maybe have a radical approach to modifying the map and see what that does ...........
