COLLECTIVE NAME?

#1 Post by EdinburghFalco » Mon Aug 18, 2008 10:17 pm

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but since getting the Falco I have detected a slight attitude of condescension from Ducati riders towards those of us with Aprilias or other Italian bikes. The inferred opinion seems to be that only Ducati is the true embodiment of Italian motorcycling, this tendency was personified for me by some pretentious twats I met on Monsters who insisted in calling themselves, Ducatisi !
So go on then what are your suggestions for a collective name for Aprilia fans? so if we meet up again I can be equally pretentious. :smt019 [/i][/b]

Hard to say really .... I guess we're a bit of an Aprilia Shower .....

I guess it's only natural that the Ducatisti would try to be a bit aloof - they have to do something to defend their embarrassment in realising they've bought the wrong Italian bike.

ducatisi? I suppose that fuckedelecticisi was taken then?

(I enjoyed my ducati, but much preferred a working bike....)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I've still got my old Ducati - an 888 SP3 from 1990 (I think), and I was comparing the 888 and the Falco at the weekend. The 888 is a fantastic bike, but it only really comes into its own on the track and (to be perfectly frank) is a bit agricultural off it. Being the single seat SP version probably has something to do with this (it was a homologation special, after all).

To be fair to the 888, there was ten years of development available to Aprilia before they released the Falco, but it's still light years ahead in terms of fit & finish and everything seems to have been thought about properly. Which is not always the case with Ducatis.

I don't think that Ducati owners have anything to be superior about. Aprilia design and execution is every bit the equal of Ducati's. Personally I'd leave them to their pretentiousness, rather than trying to outdo them.

As for a collective name - a Flock of Falcos?

Beware ducs bearing gifts.

They have the same attitude as Ferrari owners, Ostriches.

Bugger 'em. My Falco's got more welly than any of their air cooled stuff, is far more agile and sexy than any of their touring stuff, yet far more reliable and practical than any of their sporty stuff. It's fit and finish is better than anything I've ever seen by Ducati and I have looked closely!

Collective noun for Aprilia owners? With the lion as our badge and our confidence in the bikes it has to be a Pride.

You could have Apriliati if you want to copy them, but if you really want to do what they do, buy a Ducati.

Aprilia's logo is the Lion.

Shouldnt a collective group of any Ap riders be called a Pride?

I'd vote for a Pride of Aprilias...

OK - I can understand a group of Aprilias being a pride but the question was how should Aprilia riders refer to themselves ..... so how does it work?
  • Hi, I'm a proud chap

Hi, I'm a Mothers Pride delivery boy

Hi, which way to the Gay Pride march?
.... not really sure any of these are really capturing the essence of it ....

There again, Pride comes before a fall, and a few have failed to keep things "right way up"

I still like The Apriliati. Well, as much as I can like that kind of thing, I'd still just rather not copy 'those kind' of Ducati owners.

My question was actually tongue in cheek. I hate the whole bike as fashion accessory thing which seems to go with Ducati, well especially those on Monsters, you know Ducati leathers, helmets, trainers. I was in Ducati Glasgow and they were selling Ducati bathing costumes! There was a picture of that ex atomic kitten Katona, or whatever her name is, in one of the bike mags in Ducati leathers, (her husband has a Monster would you believe) now if that doesn't make you want to sell your Ducati and buy an Aprilia!
I must put on record that if Aprilia start making toasters like KTM I might have to sell the Falco in shame! :smt012
