Driving a performance diesel does change the way you drive though.
Somebody on an earlier thread questioned why the hell you need a 6 speed box when these diesels have so much torque and it is a good question. :smt017
Fact is, unless you are really pushing it you just quick shift through the box, often missing gears so you do most of your driving between about 1200 and 2500 revs, in the highest gear you can, which gives you the incredible MPG figures. With gearing almost 40mph per 1000 revs in 6th, you dont use it in 30 limits, but mine will pull 6th at 800 revs, so you can use it in 40 zones. If your feeling lazy you can just drive it a bit more normal and you won't drop below 42-45mpg in traffic.
Main thing is, you've always got instant serious power if you need it from around 1500 revs.
I know I'm getting old, put this sort of easy access to instant massive power works for me now, specially if I'm getting just under 50mpg on my regular 15 mile commute to work through traffic.
Had all sorts of performance petrol engines in the past and rallied cars for almost 10 years, (mainly with a Mk1 Escort Twin Cam), and loved high revving engines. Then again on a rally special stage the Twin Cam did about 7mpg!!
