Wales: I came... I saw... I ...!

#1 Post by k1w1boy » Wed Apr 16, 2008 8:36 pm

...met up with FlyingKiwi and his mate Trevor today in glorious sunsoaked North Wales for a bit of bend straightening comepletely misjudged a right hander and dropped it. :smt013 Thanks to the amazing just-metcha hospitality of F.K. am back on the road for the leg home of my Welsh wander. The roads here are incredible - set after set of horizontally and laterally undulating bends - and for the last 3 days cool-but-comfortable-in-leathers. :smt007 The roads were barely matched by F.K's helpfulness and ingenuity.

I lost my right hanger and rear brake lever, dinged up one MTC pipe, shredded a bit of my hugger and an indicator and the lower left leg of my textile trousers but otherwise came of quite lightly. The DHM crash bung worked really well. I have some fixable gouges in my tail fairing - largely saved by my pillion handle, lost broke my right front indicator stalk but the rest of the right side came off remarkably well - largely because the mushroom kept most of the plastic off the deck until in hit the grass and it dug in. Recommend them. :smt006

Pics below - before and after. Had to include a shot of F.K working on the bike. Have 'Stigged' him up with a helmet because I've noticed most of the pics of folks on here are helmetted.

...dunno what I'd have done on my own. The milky bars are on me F.K and Trevor :smt041

:smt001 Glad you survived okay. Im sure the bike will fix easily enough.

There's nowt wrong with a bit of battle damage, always good for increasing the bike's security...! They dont seem to nick dinged bikes.. :smt005

Clearly that RSVR sticker was the cause of the accident.. :smt002

Big up for Fk n Trev.

good work chaps on getting it back on the road

and those indicators - where did you get them from? I have never seen those before and might be cool to put a set on my falco....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

:smt053 Awww shucks I'm gonna blush...
Just doing what anyone would to help.
Shame though as it was a lovely day and promised much.
Don't tell too many of the roads up here or they'll all wanna come up
Mind you, after Gio binned it up here and now Kiwiboy maybe you lot better stay away :smt003
Oh and Kiwiboy is in need of a rear brake master cylinder, or maybe just the linkage from lever into cylinder, A rear grab handle, and a right handlebar.
He also needs to get his front fairing bracket straightened (join the club)
And tell the truth, my face is covered ,cause the sun was reflecting of my bald noggin

Gutted for you mate, nothing worse that that feeling and noise when you hit the deck.

Still, now you've got to get the spanners out my as well open the book of bling, fill your boots and empty your bank account.

I'll need to look around a bit, but I might have a spare grab handle, can't guarantee it though and it's got a long trip to make.

...thanks for the offers guys. I will shop around for the essential bits (the rear brake) but will wait and see with the cosmetic side of things. I've joked to a few people, including F.K on the day that the Falco is (was :smt022 ) the prettiest thing I've ever ridden and owned so I was just asking for trouble... see me out there primping and preening the thing every other day - it just wasn't natural! :smt016

There's a pretty well regarded outfit down here called 'Sudden Impact' who specialise in 'plastic surgery' and I may get a quote from them for the tail section if I can't find a suitable replacement on ebay or whatever. May even consider the Frankenstien's Falco route red tail, blue tank, black front :smt003 Will deffo get the can resleeved - they sound too rorty for me to contemplate the standards for too long. Should work out cheaper than a new set of a/market cans.

Photo: "Make sure you get my good side!" she rumbled.

Blue looks very cool (I've got one too), but where are all your stickers?

.... I got it like this from a dealer. It's an '02 with 26k on it - can only guess the previous owner either wanted it to be an anonymous Aprilia ... or he trashed the plastics and had to replace/respray them. The tail section is definitely OEM and there's little structural damage to support the wrecked idea.

Who needs the fastest colour when you can have the coolest one. :smt004

....only if a bronze bit features as part of a FrankenFalco - Which bit of bronze would make her the fastest then D? Actually, given how I felt a split second before I did my own version of a flying kiwi on weds, maybe I'll just settle for cool.

I can understand that, the colour you were thinking of a split second before the off was probably BROWN or possibly Bronze.

...cool, thanks Gio. All the controls are intact so I'd only need the handlebar - please PM me and we can do a deal or something. :smt003

Am having much less luck finding the r.hand hanger/rear brake master cylinder combo I need. The couple of Falco's breaking on ebay have already sold those bits and my partfinder search thingy, which usually inundates me with offers from breakers, hasn't given me a single peep. Anyone know anyone who's put on fancy schmancy rearsets who might be convinced to part with their OEM part? Anyone know if other Aprilia model rearsets would be a straight swap - Tuono's, older RSV's etc?
