Never ever use silicon furnature polish on your bike! If the worst happens and you have an off, you will not be able to get the panels repaired as the paint won't stick, so you'll either need all new parts or will have to ride round on a very badly painted bike.

WD40 should do it well enough. Rather than faff around with hairdryers and boiling water, leave the tank in the sun and get it warmed up with no effort on your part and for free.

Hairdryer to soften the glue, then peel the pad off and finish with WD to clean the resulting mess. :smt003
Oh and alcohol wipes, or similar, to get rid of the WD before applying the new pad! :smt002

shit, hampshires changed since i lived there! what is this sun that you speak of?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Sounds like the same mystical orb that the Elder Northeners used to speak of. Before we killed and ate them. :smt106

... have made a couple of fitful attempts - cold - with the WD40 but with fingernails can't even lift an edge. Worried the prev owner welded the sod on. :smt019 No sign, or even an email from the graphics company I paypal-ed my new tank pad from, so nothing to replace the old 'un with anyway. :smt013

I think you'll be needing the WD40 to remove all the sticky goo left once the pad is peeled off. Not sure it will help in the actual peeling. That's the time to use the heat.

... went to one of my local motorcycling gurus (the bloke that does me discount tyres) and he brought out a razorblade, lifted a corner of my tankpad and it broke like a walkers chip. The glue came off with gentle finger rubbing (what else will come off with a bit of gentle finger rubbing - ooer. Sorry :smt016 ). Will be out with a stanley knife tomorrow to see what I can achieve. If only the web-pirate I tried to order an new tank pad would come through and allow me to avoid the tedium that is chasing up a paypal fiasco :smt013

It's that yellowy thing that apears in the sky for aproximately 20 minutes between rain, hail and snow showers.

Sounds like your tank pad is quite old and has gone brittle with UV exposure. www.tankpads.de (at least I think that's their address) seem to be pretty good, they have an e-bay shop that I got my pad from. It took about three days to arrive from Germany (where germs come from) and had a free keyring with it.
