Newbie to the forum

#1 Post by Big_AL » Sun Mar 30, 2008 7:44 pm

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and new to Aprilia ownership, in fact I've not even picked up my new (to me) Aprilia Falco yet, I get it tomorrow and can't wait :smt001

My new bike is a bog standard, '05 Falco in bronze

I've been reading through the forum and am slowly learning about the various mods and customisation options, the first of which will be to change the side stand as the current one is a bit scary and don't wanna see my new bike on the floor. So as I'm a newbie please forgive me if I ask daft questions as I'm still learning, anyways, just wanted to say hi seeing it's my first post :smt006

welcome Al - am a relative newbie myself. The veteran posters here are great and no question seems to be too daft to be handled with patience and humour... so far :smt016

Welcome Al - don't worry about silly questions, we're pro's at silly answers! :smt002

Second mod would be ditch the OE tyres (MEZ3's if that's what's on there) for something better - they're horrible as far as Falcos go. Pirelli Diablo, Conti's or Bridgestones seem to go well.

Bar is this way to introduce yourself to the wider forum (there's much more than just ApriliaRidersite) - mines a pint.

I am also a noob by nature - I just dabble a bit as I was a latecomer to the falco party....

and as kiwi pointed out it is one of the faster colours - mainly because a large part of it is black - and black ones are proven to be faster :)

welcome abopard and feel free to ask for advice

I do hope you have some cash though - we LIKE to spend other folks money......

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

H Al - welcome to the forum.

Don't be worried about asking questions - we love to share the knowledge we've picked up.

Ignore Pete (Aladinsaneuk) he's no newbe .... we even get a bit of sense out of him from time to time.

Where abouts are you located - there may well be some of us in your area.

Sidestand mod is a good place to start - guess you know the options (modded GSXR, VTR or, of course the US market aprilia stand).

Your Falco must be very low mileage if you've got the OEM tyres. I can't emphasise enough what Firestarter said about replacing them - truly awful - handling with virtually anything else is so much better. Like a fool I kept mine till the rear was shot - wish I'd changed them on day 1.

Once those things are done, rear shock is next (even seen some Mille R Ohlins going for about £150 in ebay lately .... but you need the linkages too).

Ah, I'll stop now .... plenty of time to spend your money for you.

:smt006 Hey big Al,

forget about the stand, save your cash for loud pipes, chip and air box mod. You won't need tha stand after that 'coz you'll never be off it long enough to matter :smt002

Thanks for the warm welcome :smt001 the bike has some nice new Bridgestone bt014's on it the bike has covered about 5000 miles and looks really clean, probably been on someones mantle piece?

Which is the best / easiest side stand mod? Ideally would like something that is a simply bolt on job. As for other mods I would like some nice aftermarket cans but would have to be road legal ones as I don't want to have to mess about swapping cans for MOT's or get pulled over by the old bill etc Is the std shock that bad from new or does it go off with time? I did fit an aftermarket shock to my previous bike at about 20K miles and that transformed the handling so i'm aware of the potential benefit. i hope this bike doesn't make me too poor else i won't be able to afford the petrol to run it :smt002

Guess I'm going to be spending a while on e bay looking for cheap bits :)

Welcome to the site Big Al :smt006 :smt006 :smt006
Hope you enjoy the Falco as much as we enjoy ours.

It takes most people a little while to acclimatise to the Falco, especially if you come to it from a Jap IL4 motor, but as you get used to it, it just gets better.
You'll be fine on the BT014s.

You made it here then! I remember when my bike looked like that.

Of course, when I was on about Mez6's I did in fact mean Mez3's, but you knew that :smt003
