the alleged assailant of myself answered his bail yesterday and this morning a police officer called me to inform me that he had been formally charged with Grevious Bodily Harm with Intent. (Section 18)
Whosoever shall unlawfully and maliciously by any means whatsoever wound or cause any grievous bodily harm to any person, with intent to do some grievous bodily harm to any person, or with intent to resist or prevent the lawful apprehension or detainer of any person, shall be guilty of an offence and, being convicted thereof, shall be liable to imprisonment for life.
The decision to do this was on the advice of the CPS.
This is about as serious as it gets and theoretically could carry a life sentence.
Youth Court on Friday 14th September then we see where we go.

That is brill news! Fingers crossed it will be continually dealt with in the grave manner it should and not swept to the side 'because he's young' or anything pathetic like that.
Couldnt find owt at your link, here's one I found:

That's really good news, really pleased for you. Must be a relief to you that it's being dealt with properly.

Glad it has gone that road, but won't celebrate till I hear what the sentence is.

Excellent - The wheels of justice grind slowly but at least they're grinding in the right direction.
Let's hope that things proceed to success.

Hi, Aladin, Hope the scrote does not get off with a slap on the wrist.
He deserves something a lot stiffer.

I'm with Samray - I'm glad he's been charged and the police are doping their bit, but whether the courts will follow through is another matter.
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

Assuming he is found guilty , the courts will give a sentence in line with govt guidelines, and these do take into account age and how full the prisons are. Anything much outside the guidelines is grounds for an appeal, so the lower courts stick to them.
" the police are doping their bit" - a Freudian slip?

the courts will give a sentence in line with govt guidelines
real shame the press has been giving the government a hard time about teenage yobs recently, and I am sure that the government is ensuring the courts are really lenient on any yobs they find guilty...
seriously, if it had been abh then yes, probably no custodial - but a section 18 is a lot different according to friends in the prison service etc - almost definite young offenders institute for a couple of years they think
I am still hoping that even if he spends time just on remand he gets to share his cell with a well endowed gentleman called "Bubba" or something similar.....
