How bad does petrol have to be ....

.. before your Falco won't even start?

I'm asking because I got a tank of _something_ the other day that was so awful my Falco wouldn't even start.

After flattening the battery trying to start it, followed by charing the battery for 24 hours and another attempt, I had to drain the fuel tank and try different fuel.

Even then it ran like a tractor until the last dregs of the old fuel was used up.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Morrisons petrol. Ghastly nasty foul smelling stuff that even my lawnmower doesn't like.

Probably just an "old" batch of cooking unleaded that's gone off then.

Are you down in Oz?

We had a big dodgy fuel problem at Tesco stations a few months back. It was doing all sorts of damage so it can happen.

Perhaps that's what they did with it once the public were onto them..... shipped it overseas

We had some dodgy fuel while crossing the Nullabor back in '96
All the jap bikes with fuel injection stopped

while our Guzzis with big Ole Carbs just sucked it in and spat it out

Oh yeah, I'm sure about that. 95 RON Premium unleaded is what the pump said.

Going by the smell, it must have been about 30% ethanol, a huge whack of benzene and toluene, and about 50% petrol.

Yep, I'm down here in Oz. The sunburnt country, with the flooding rains and baking sun, the raging bushfires and swarms of flies.

There have been a few independant petrol stations (ie, not part of the regular BP / Shell / Mobil / etc chains) that were selling dodgy petrol. One got busted for putting up to 30% toluene into the mix. The car drivers would rock up, fill up, then fail to even get out of the fore-court. Massive hoo-haw and court actions all around.

Mind you, we have some of the worst fuel in the world down here. All (or most of) our imported cars are retuned before they arrive, simply to deal with the fuel.

Nope. I'm derailing my own thread here, but Pratchett I find is very hit and miss. Some of his stuff I liked, some I didn't. "Dark Side of the Sun" was the best, I thought.
