From todays BBC web site,
World Superbike rider James Toseland will race for Yamaha's Tech 3 team in next year's MotoGP championship.
The Ten Kate Honda rider says it is a "massive gamble" but that he will have achieved all he can in Superbikes if he wins a second world title this year.
"The easy choice was to stay and be competitive in Superbikes. I could continue that, no problem," he said.
"It was a big decision to make but I want to see where I line up against the best in the business."
From the horses mouth, so to speak !

Tech 3 have been good at times, however they've had riders who had nothing to lose unlike Toseland.
Personally I think its disgusting the way factory sponsored teams restrict the satellite ones on machinery, for example Marco Melandri, easily the best Honda rider yet blighted by a shit bike, and I see Honda are going to be the shitheads they want to be (ala VR) over when he can get on the Ducati. Wankers.
BTW is it true, VR might retire?

Time will tell but the Tech 3 option may be a very good choice.
I don't think it's so far behind the works team in terms of machinery as it was when Ellison rode for them - and next season they will also be on Michelin - which should be an improvement over Dunlop. Whether they can match Bridgestone is anyone's guess.
I guess the Suzuka disaster didn't help his cause for a competitive works Honda ride (other than in WSB).

At his age, he had no choice, he had to go.
Yes he could have stayed in WSB and eventually possibly become a bigger Brit hero like Foggy and won 4 or more WSB titles, (almost tied up his second at Brands yesterday). He would never have been a World name and would never have known if he could have cracked it in MotoGP, (I believe he can and will). Problem is that he will never have the financial backing to buy a ride with millions in sponsership tied up, (like most foreign riders). Therefore his only chance is to prove himself in a non factory team first, as long as he picks a decent one. I think Tech 3 may but just the way to go, all the best Jim, you can go all the way.
