Hmm, you had me wondering as well then, but found this:
By 1993, Harley-Davidson had decided to expand its business by attracting new customers in new market segments. Harley had been keeping a close eye on Erik’s work and naturally turned to him at this time. In February 1994 the new Buell Motorcycle Company was born, 49% owned by Harley-Davidson. Four years later, Harley purchased a further 49% of the company to become the majority investor, with Erik retaining a 2% share and a long term employment contract to ensure continuity of line in terms of innovation, engineering and styling. The Buell Motorcycle Company was now a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, Inc.

To be honest, I'd rather walk than ride that horrid looking heap of *****. No really. I would.

It looks horrid from the side, especially with the shrouded Sierra Estate Exhaust can, Those weird looking shite collectors.. sorry air scoops(?) just.. well, make me wanna vomit. As does the frame design. And just look at the Ugly fekker from the front!! Does my arse look big on this? Not with a fairing like that it doesnt!!

Just more proof that Americans have no passion or style when it comes to Motorcycle design. They should stick to designing show winning cruisers. ** In fairness, that isnt strictly true, but it's my rant and I'll lie if I want to... :smt019

The new Buell? It's an SV that's eaten one too many Hershey bars.

From the side it looks like 5 bikes carelessly glued together (or poorly photoshopped).

I like the frame - especially as it doubles as a fuel tank (I like clever design that gives things multiple functions).
I'm neutral to the exhaust - I'd stick it inside a bellypan in any case.
I don't like the mid-fairings that surround the radiators ... at least I'm not keen from the pictures - but it might look better in the 'flesh'.

It's a Buell so it will handle well.
This or an SV - no contest - the Buell wins every time for me. I've always been interested in Buells - it was THAT tractor motor that put me off. Now with an uprated Rotax I think this could be a really good bike.

It's as wide as a fecking Goldwing :smt103, it is truly horrid. Typically American i.e. not a clue about styling. Very little decent design ever comes out of the states, apart from the Dodger Viper, so it's no surprise that this is way below what we expect as a paying public. That front end it just plain wrong, no balance whatsoever.....and there was a time when they said that the Falco was ugly.

Anyway, check out what many reckon is the ugliest bike ever and compare and contrast with this new Buell heap, I'd say there's very little in it....

The lights are 916ish, from the side it looks a little like a deformed Triumph, (the naked one with the twin spots that I cant remember the name of), the exhaust is like 'Duh, what should we do with this?...' and didnt rim-mounted discs go 'out', (were they ever 'in'), by the mid eighties? :smt017
I considered getting a Buell as an alternative to the Falco but the arse-ugly frame, and styling in general, put me off; This latest effort doesnt do anything to change my mind, (quite the opposite)! :smt009

Have to agree about the looks, especially the mid fairings and the belly pan or whatever covering the exhaust, in fact the only really good point is the motor!

I've a soft spot for Buells, I owned an XB firebolt for a couple of years and it was a hoot. The styling was not to everyones taste but I liked it....fuel in the frame was inovative but the down side was a fairly less than average tank range, almost as bad as the original Honda Firestorm. The underslung exhaust helps with the mass centralisation theory but it caught every piece of crud out there and rusted worse than Falcholics wallet clip! It has still been the best handling bike I've ridden by far (sorry guys).
But this!!!!!! my oh my, from what ever angle I look at it it is brutally ugly...even tried to squint up the eyes but no, its still a pig! Those airscoops from the side remind me of those leg protector things the Goverment tried to implement a few years ago. Nice colour though, all thats missing as a little bit of bronze :smt003

Just sent an email to a local dealer to arrange a test ride. Not interested, just wanna wind them up a bit. Will be interesting to see what the engine is like tho.
