I reckon it ough to be banned in the streets too! And certainly in the same room as children.
Well if we had smoking AND non smoking pubs then we would all be happy wouldnt we? :smt016

I know I have said it before but no one has yet given me a diffintive answer -

'IF' we all gave up smoking . . . . . . . NOW. . . . . where would the government get the billions of pounds we hand over in tax for tobacco etc. Answer is simple - from everyone, they would have to raise taxes on other things to cover the loss. Therefore 'we smokers' are saving all you non-smokers money. So stop winging and say thank you to the next person you see suffering outside in the cold having a ciggarette for YOUR benifit

Wont wash ligloo. You know the ban is for your own good - just like the veggies you had to eat as a child :smt003

Cleaning up the rubbish? Thats easy - make the publicans clean up the areas outside their pubs, and whilst you're at it do the same to MacDonalds etc.

Extra taxes Gnome? I would happily pay them to improve your health. I'm altruistic like that.

:smt002 With you all the way on that m8, Smoked fags for nigh on 40 years and have been clean for a few years now and its great, no more stinking like a pub ash tray, feel loads better in wind and health and what s more I have loads of dosh to spend on bikes and things. But seriously I enjoyed my fags and sometimes get that little urge again to have one, but then I get the smell of a smoker pasing by and it puts me right off them again. :smt020

It could make up some of the deficit from the savings made in the NHS when it doesn't have to spend out treating people with smoking realted illnesses :smt033

Wouldnt want to spoil a good argument, but you're kidding yourself. The money spent by the NHS woulld be exactly the same whether all the pop suddenly gave up smoking or not. Something would arrise (wages for example) to use up what little saving there would be. And since the NHS costs are mainly fixed ones, that saving would be tiny.

Look at it another way - if they dont get lung cancer, they'll catch something else instead. Everybody dies sometime, and the longer people live the more use they make of the NHS.

It affects all workplaces, so if you drive for a living, you will be banned from smoking in your car/van/lorry etc. I find it annoying that in my workshop I'm the only person, yet I will be breaking the law if I light up, and the same in my dyno truck. It's just more government interferance in peoples everyday life, soon they'll expect people to spy on their friends and family and inform the authorities of anything. New Labour is becoming more like a Stalinist dictatorship rown takes over.

We here in Scotland have had the smoking ban for ages now and it's worked ok so far.

Just go outside for a smoke. Simple. People just get used to it and don't even moan about it anymore.

You'll see, all the hoo haa will die down after a few months and it will become the norm.
