Yeah - I realised we'd not resolved this - I was just enjoying a day or so without this being the number1 thread so that we could chill out a bit.
I'll have a think about the best way to collect/clarify views on what we want to do and what ground rules to set and then I'll start a new thread (and at the right time, maybe a poll) to resolve this.
It will be in one of the more General Aprilia forums so that we show our willingness to listen to the views of those that don't ride Falcos.
...... might not get round to this today, but I'll do it soon.

Andy, I appreciate this issue is going on a bit and please look at when you have time, but just to go on a bit more, what you're suggesting above, relating to non Falco people, also works the other way, this was my point earlier.D-Rider wrote:I'll have a think about the best way to collect/clarify views on what we want to do and what ground rules to set and then I'll start a new thread (and at the right time, maybe a poll) to resolve this.

I understand keeping things tidy, have worked in IT for 40 years, so not disputing this.
There are two main issues for me still to sort/comment on.
The Falco people are currently the majority on this site and as stated earlier, if we start putting all the Falco stuff in the general areas, Technical, Ride Outs etc., any newbys who look at the site will think that this is purely a Falco dominated site, find it boring and go away.
I believe this is not what Kwacks etc. or indeed you would like. I would also like to see this "RiderSite" cover lots of bikes, as would people like TN. My idea of setting up some specific sections for other bikes and letting people post all specific stuff in these areas, would keep Falco stuff on its own and the same for any other specific bike people who come along.
Totally agree that general stuff like helmets, general stuff on tyres, talk about good roads, general Bike Rally info., should all go in non specific areas. Also think we have got better on this as many Falco people now regularly post in other general areas. These new forums my be a bit lonely at first, (won't they F9), but things will improve and people can come out into the General Chat forums.
The second issue is a bit different!
Because I have been an IT manager for many years I have spent ages telling people how they should do things in certain ways, because that's what the computer likes us to do, it's more efficent.
All through life we seem to be told what we have to do. One of the reasons we ride bikes is to escape from all this crap. We don't have to join queues of tin boxes, we drive at speeds that we feel are safe, which might not always be the speed limit, (only on open roads, mi'lud), but is usually faster than the tin boxes, and really enjoy this freedom.
Similary when we post on this forum, we like to get away from "rules" and just chat with mates, who share our specific (Falco) interests.
It seems to me if we work as detailed above we can keep our Falco people together, but also take our heads out of the sand occasionally and look at what other bikers are doing.
Also a growing trend, (now Falcos are out of production), for our lot to have a Falco and other bikes, so they have other things to talk about and areas to post in.
After all, we wouldn't want em filling up the Falco area with talk about KTMs, Dukes, CBRs, Kwaks etc..

I don't think that anyone has been suggesting we stick all the Falco stuff in general areas. We rightly have a Falco area and we need to keep it full of good Falco-based discussion.
If there are Falco-specific technical things I (personally) see no problem in them being in the Falco area. If they are general to a number of Aprilias then it would be good for the thread starter to just spend a moment to consider putting them in the Aprilia Technical area. Sometimes they will be pertinent to a wide variety of bikes and could be better shared with the whole forum. Of course the poster will not always realise the bredth of relevence and I've no issue with that. Where it's not a clear case that it would be a real help shared more widely I'd not be too bothered to move it but the occasional moving of posts for everyones benefit can't be a bad thing.
Similarly rideouts. If we really want a Falco Rideout we SHOULD post it in the Falco forum - but sometimes we'll want to open it up. If we start out with that intention, then post it where everyone can see it. If we decide Falco take-up is slow then post again elsewhere to widen the invitation.
TBH many people are already posting in this way.
However, I think this minor 'row' has done us some good. It is easy for any of us to just post things in the Falco Forum because we happen to ride a Falco and we know our posts will have a good audience in that forum.
We just need to widen our horizons a bit before posting sometimes.
We also need to prepare the forum so that it can evolve around a changing membership whose bikes are also gradually changing. That being said - I hope the change is mainly additions rather than gains and losses and I hope as many of us keep our Falcos as long as possible (you may have noticed I give everyone a hard time when they talk of defecting .... heaven help me if I ever change my bike!).
As for the Big Brother controls, again I don't think we've suggested rules that must be firmly adherred to. We have talked about Guidelines - my view is they need to come from consensus rather than 'the top' (whatever that is in this context). They will help us to create the forum that suits us .... but it must suit us and others in the future as well as the present.
These guidelines will also help moderators and admin to move things about in a helpful way when there is a need to do so. My hope is that there won't often be a need to do so.
One thing that we all need to keep in mind is that whatever someone's opinion as to the best way to organise things, everyone on here wants something that works well, let's us share our experiences and provides help whenever we need it - we have a common aim.

Sorry if I misled you, I meant all the Falco stuff that was not to be left in the main Falco section, like Falco technical stuff etc..
Agree with all your 1st paragraph in general.
2nd para I think we are saying the same thing, but not totally we a looking at doing it same way!
As for the last lot "Big Brother", this was a bit tongue in cheek, but think it is a real issue, that is why we ride bikes, to not conform, enjoy the freedom and do our own thing, although bikes are becoming a fashion accessory these days.
Whatever, you are right it's still "good to talk".
Better get some work done now!

Can I just mention, we are on about two Websites co-located, not one Website with two URLs
Anything to do with RiderSite (as in sections for various bikes) needs to be discussed there really!
The two sites situation is a complex affair, I do try and keep the two separate, however due to the constraints placed upon the Site, at times it isnt possible to keep the two entirely separate.
I dont want RS to lose it's identity and similarly the same with ARS.
I could just lump all the RS subject headings under a singular category like Ap RS is on the forums, but that would then detract from the way RS is. Similarly RS is not just another bike website, it's userbase is based on close friends from all over the world, not a Visordown 'All in stew' of people.
Those who use RS are used to RS as it is. There is no intention of opening up separate categories for different marques. If you want that, consider www.motorcyclenews.com . RS isnt about that. We could have expanded at the same time as Visordown did, but we didnt, RS maintained it's own personality and feel, There were selected offshoots, Aprilia RiderSite, Triumph RiderSite and the like, but that was and is it. RS isnt about being the one stop site for all. It's a community, pretty cliquey from the outside I guess and it grows slowly and for the majority of the posters through introductions by it's members as opposed to tinternet searches.
ARS is different. It never had a close knit feel like RS did, it was a tool for drawing in lots of Aprilia riders to aid it's sponsors. It worked. Now those sponsors have gone and the Site has drawn down, there is no real change to this. It still has the aim to be Aprilia RiderSite and be a leading UK Aprilia website. It's subliminally got a new sponsor in BikeJohnny, who pay the way for RS's bandwidth and hosting, etc but theyre not a sponsor in a dynamic way like the old sponsors were.
Theyre doing it more out of respect for the Site and what it is and was. They dont 'sell' on the Site and the only singular mention of them has been by myself as I knew they were an outlet for R and G crash bobbins n stuff.
I do understand what has been said about non conformance, but didnt you lot agree to a form of a contract when you joined the site?
Pah.. Rebels you lot are...
But seriously, I do appreciate what you're saying.
If you want to keep all the Falco shite in Falco, then we can do that. No probs. I'll get rid of the Tech section and shove everything in Falco. What I do need though is the other areas of the Site filling up with topics related to RSV's Tuonos, Rs's and the new bikes. This isnt a Falco Site. It's an Aprilia Site. From my first mention of it (filling up the forums) nobody has said anything about that.
I could always assimilate the Falco RSV and Tuono Sections together, The two stroke section can stand alone and create a new section for Shiver and that other monstrosity, oh and for Futura.
Let's be honest, the RSV and Falcos arent exactly new stock and are starting to age against the new bikes.. Maybe it's time to bring on the new models and be back to being leaders in the field. Start discussions about the Shivers, etc and get ahead of the game and actually have shiver and wossname discussion forums? The new breeds are coning..?
Keep discussing.. All good and wholesome!
