I've got a Datatool3 too and done the wiring mod and no problems.

However I had a thought, a rare occurence I know, I know.

Andy and I both sis the wiring mod at the same time as the HID install. The HID has a lower power rating (35W instead of 55w I think) may have something to do with it, but as Andy says the relays are seperate so should't be a problem.

Yeah - the same thought went through my mind Dale but I can't see why that should affect it.

I've passed a fair few MOTs with it done - not aware that it contravenes anything in keeping the dip on with the high beam - things are the same as standard on dip.

The one thing that is a bit of a grey area is the legality of an aftermarket HID conversion - though I've never had a problem with that.

Just a note (and keep it in one thread): Datatool3, HID, new-type switch. Mod just done, no problems.

Thanks for this info, just gave it a go, with a crappy soldering iron.

Didn't start so well, iron ran out of gas. 30 mins later, back with more gas. Soldered the black wire to the middle connection (old type switch) and it didnt take. Rough up the surface and try again, still didn't stick. Balls to that, so stuck it straight to the white wire. But the wrong one! All lights on for dipped and main, pants.

As was now getting dark, stuck the black wire back on its home. Put jumper wire from black to correct white one. Tested and all good, 1 light to 3, with the flasher causing no issues. Great.

Put the switch back together and thought i'd try it one last time. Pop. No power to dash and no lights. Crap. Mellow yellow had issues with the relay, please not me, don't have a spare. Thankfully no, just a 15amp fuse.

Pulled it back apart and removed the jumper. In the process, pulling the white wire from its seat. More crap.

Replaced the wire, in near dark and new fuse. Dash and lights ok, but still standard 1-2.

A simple job made a whole lot harder by crappy tools and me not taking my time. Theres a lesson here, always take your time. I'll have another stab another day!

For reference - 2001 Falco, veto EVO alarm, issues! Although 99% me!

Sorry it happened.... But cheap tools are not worth it....

And yes, take your time .... It becomes easier

( I guess you do not want to know about my three hours. Hanging the rear light cluster, fitting two new brake calipers and lowering the bars either but.... I have decent tools and have done all those before!)

Hi Jay, probably best asking Andy on FB - haven't seen him on here much at all recently. Are you aware that we can now host images on the site? That's been a big help. If you still have the images for all the 'how-to's' you did then you can now replace all the blurred Photofuckit images with ones hosted directly on the site.

You can achieve the same with the use of a diode between the low beam and high beam relay.

I reckon I've got a vid somewhere I'll look out.
