I understand most of what you are saying Quacks and agree with much of it, but I must be perceiving some bits in a slightly different way. I take your point that people may look at this site now and think that it's just a Falco site with little else to offer and could think as you say "it's all falco crap, and dont come back", cos we do tend to be pretty active, but as you say we have both helped to save each other and must not forget that.
The next bit is where my perception differs from yours. If Falco discussions fill the Technical forums, the galleries and the rest, anybody who has a quick look will be sure to think it's a Falco site and never come back unless they own one. If you keep the Falco bits in one box, this will have less of an impact. Many "Falconeers" or whatever you want to call them contribute regularly on most of the other forums now, without even mentioning Falcos which has seriously improved the site in general for other bikers, it was pretty quiet when we first came in. Some of us are only interested in Falcos, (I can live with that) and others have wider interests, and help to support the site in general, general meet ups/rallies and just like chatting about anything bike.
In my view more similar bike groups should be set up, where people can go to from the General site and talk more techie or whatever about their type of bike. I for one would be interested in a CBR forum, as I still ride one, or a general Honda group as I've owned a quite few of them. Have also owned lots of bikes over the years from Brit singles and twins, though Jap 2 and 3 pot two stokes and Jap IL4s, and would be happy to chat in some sort of classic forums about any of them. But have no real interest in restoring classics to mint, think that is for another site.
The old Aprillia site as you agree had a good split of Aprilia kit originally, but the others lost interest so we took over. It was that way round, we didn't force em out! It did limit interest on the site though and we all agreed (in a vote) that if we just stayed as a Falco site, we would eventually die as they don't make em anymore!
So that's my view, keep the Falcos in one box most of the time, so the site does not look totally Falco and start up some other forums, bike or manufacturer specific for any other people who show an interest. You've heard about my other interests. Lets get some of these old friends now starting to come back, out of the general Bike Chat area and talking about their current bikes (or Trikes, sorry BikerGran).
Not sayin I'd read their stuff everyday, but I'd keep popping in and know where to go if I wanted info on other bikes. People in the other new forums would probably do the same, then we could really become a "RiderSite".
Whatever we do we will always need people like you Samray, Andy and Gio (bike or not), to keep it running and keep people chatting. Just be a bit careful when taking decisions on what we "need", most of us agree with 90% of what you do, but are sick of having our general lives decided by bloody politicians, we come in here to get away from that shit and expect it to be a bit more democratic.
We also have to remember that we will always need people like TwinNut who just want to join in and chat about one particular bike whatever it is, and make it easy for all of them to cut through the general crap and go straight to their specific areas. If some of us happen to think the Falco is the best bike that we can easilly afford and for us it's the dogs danglies, well you're gonna have to live with that mate!
Hope I've not upset anyone, it is just my perception of the problem and how we might improve/broaden.
Again over to the rest of you, lets throw some more ideas in and not argue.
Cheers, the old farts gettin back into his (Falco) box now!
Howard.
