I love Vicks work. He is one of the best but he does seem to relish in the awkward or odd shaped mould. He also seems to have a habit of letting you know he has had to do more work than he quoted for.. But it is his way of making it look more complex or harder than he claimed to expect. But even without that, his work is very good. If I had the option or could get pre-preg tooling cheaper I would get him to use that as it would cut down on time.
So lets see what next week brings. Vick did say I could have the shell mould this week but I think it is better there for now just incase he needs to refer to it for the bonded joints between base and shell..

We've been teased with pictures of tank #1 test-fitted to the Falco...
My bling-o-meter pegged at 12 and my bank account screamed like a terrified school girl when I saw the images.
So when do we see the next instalment of photos and updates?

It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.
Both Rich and I have been on our hols during this past fortnight. I got back late Wednesday night and I think Rich is back now.
Therefore there has been no tank progress for a couple of weeks but things will pick up again from now.
We're pretty confident we've got the mounting positions tuned now so a final confirmation will leave us ready for the production run.
Yes, it's taken a while but we're getting close now.

Yep sorry guys I have been away and Nooj didnt come over to collect the first tank to try before I want away... he is over on Friday apparently (as calling him is harder than calling Lord Lucan). I have shell number two done and the new pivot tubes have arrived, although I sent them some of the rubber bushes and the instruction was to open out the tubes to let the bushes slide in, they have left them too small and the bushes will fit but need a good shove so they are going back to be opened up a little more.. But I will open one of them out here myself for tank number two. I will have the second one done next week and once Andy tries that one I think we are set to just get them made.
starting the second tank base tomorrow. The shell is done and has been done for a while........ The pivot tubes have been done a little tight so they have gone back to the engineers to be opened up a little more. But the second tube has now been modified to accept the bushes..
I am going to be cooking the base on Monday ready to be demoulded on tuesday morning.

Just to let you know, progress will continue to be a bit slow.
I'm flying out to Korea for work on Sunday and will not return 'till the following weekend - therefore the earliest that I would be able to do another trial fit of a tank will be some time during the following week - and with commitments I already have, it's unlikely before the end of that week.
Sorry chaps but there we are .... thought I'd better let you know.

Andy may be off for a while but I will have two or three shells and bases made in the next couple of weeks ready for bonding in one big batch of sealer and adhesive mixing chaos. I am already on the third shell today and should have the shell and a base made for the weekend. My only delay may be a little work on the tank base mould to remove some low spots which do not let the base come away from the mould easily. It may be a simple bit of sanding and releasing up the mould again. At worst it may need some sanding and a thin layer of gelcoat resin adding to fill the low spots. Then sanding smooth and releasing up again. Its not a huge issue as I have had two bases from the mould but they do take about 40 minutes to remove and need an hour to cool down first to try and let the mould shrink away from the base a little. I just do not like allowing moulds to go cold if I can help it. It can cause some cracking of the gelcoat if it shrinks down onto the carbon. It should be OK on the base as it is shrinking away from and not gripping harder on the base apart from on the edge a little.
Make an orderly queue...
OK now I need to have a name for anyone who id going to have the next tank... The shell is made.. I am going to get three tanks made up then lacquer them all or get them lacquered as lacquering is my weakest thing and takes me the longest...
So first name put forward has tank number 3.Andy is having the second one as he wanted me to make a small alteration to the pivot point location...

Looking good Rich.
I'm back in UK now - though rather knackered having not seen a bed for more than 43 hrs ... and counting ...
We can schedule that trial fit that we were wanting to do for sometime next week.

Can I put my hand up for one of the next two or three? It's almost summer down here in Oz, and that means time to ride!
Oh, and I'll need a quote for the shipping cost as well.
Thanks,
V

I have to make and bond in the base and then lacquer it still.. So all of the new updates will be of your tank... Sorry guys it will get a bit repetitive with the same things being posted up with each tank but it will be of your tank so you can see what was done on your specific tanks...
I will sort out a price when I get Andy's sorted and boxes made up.
