where is the redline?
tried searching, but can't find reference of where the redline is as I'm fiddling with setting when the red warning light needs to start flashing...
And has anyone replaced the standard falco horn with something louder?

The red line is where you choose to set it. After the running in period, Aprilia states max revs as 10,500 rpm (if memory serves correct - check in the manual).
Therefore I set my red line at about 10,250.
The rev limiter kicks in at 11,000 rpm (again, if memory serves correct) - you can't change that.
I still use the standard horn - mine isn't that quiet.

aha, thanks for that, just been reading around and think I might set mine at 9800 to allow for any delay in spotting it...
my horn is a very sorry sounding thing, maybe I've got an electrical fault as the indicators only flash after a trip on the motorway - otherwise lighting and running perfectly. I'm hoping it's just a bad earth on the flasher unit - anyone any idea where this might be hidden?

I set mine about 8.5 to 9.5 as by then I'm either in the shit or going too fast :)
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Hi BF, I bought 105 decibel horn on eBay, made by Acumen Electronics.
Have not fitted it yet as with SL carbon cans and HID headlight conversion I get seen and heard.
I guess UK drivers may be a bit more polite than where you are. Have a look on eBay !
PS
The flasher unit is on the left hand side, under the seat/tail unit, the last component nearest the tail light ( in a row of 4)

I guess that's why I set mine at 10,250 - so that when I get the chance for more spirited riding, it isn't flashing at me when I hit the max power.wayno wrote:The Falco makes max power at 9500 rpm so that's where mine's set, anything past that and it ain't worth it :)
Don't like lots of lashing lights so I push it well out of the way.

That would depend on how quickly the power tails off. However I also have it set at 9,500 so there is a bit of a margin before the rev limiter cuts in.
I find after a reset the flashing at 6k annoying, not for top but pulling through the gears. Not that I often go much beyond 6k on the road mind.

Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

According to the curves plotted here:wayno wrote:The Falco makes max power at 9500 rpm so that's where mine's set, anything past that and it ain't worth it :)

It appears that hanging on to each gear as long as possible is the way to go as, below 4th, even up-shifting at the red-line results in a significant drop in forward thrust.

Yup, you know about it when you hit it. I was overtaking a Harley and three cars that were doing the lets drive up each others arses at ten under the limit thing. I don't worry about the light, I either short shift or I'm too busy to look.wayno wrote:I hit the rev limiter once following my mate (his RSV is so loud I couldn't hear my engine), man does that limiter cut in hard!!HisNibbs wrote:However I also have it set at 9,500 so there is a bit of a margin before the rev limiter cuts in.
