I got mine direct from the US - the GBP/USD exchange rate is pretty favourable at the moment. The kit you want is the FMGV S2040 (assuming you have Showa 43mm USD forks).
Do you know what the difference is between the S2040 and the versions with B and G suffixes?

The ones with G suffixes are the 'Super' Gold valves - apparently a bit more radical for track day types. I've found the standard ones just fine. They clearly flow a lot more damping oil than the standard pistons, and aren't a bottleneck like the standard valves. This means that the control is managed in the shim stack, which is as it should be. One of the things I noticed with the standard valves is that you could twiddle the compression adjuster as much as you like and it never got any softer. Adjustment now makes a difference with the Gold valves.

Sorrry - no idea what the B suffix does. Could it be rebound valves?

Aaah the B means bushes are included in the kit.

OK I have finally taken the forks off the Falco and have put the forks, mudguard, wheel and spindle from the 999 onto the falco. These forks are shorter but have got them at the same length as originals. Will see how it handles tomorrow.

I am thinking of sending the forks to Reactive Suspension in York as he will revalve for £180 and fit new bushes and seals for £80 but not sure what valves he is putting in. I should give him a call next week. Any other suggestions for revalve fitting work?

Cheers
Matt

Interesting.....Can you put a few pics up of the 999 front end conversion you have done?

BTW 999 and a falco.....that's quite a garage! Love the looks of the 999.

The idea was to have a run around and the 999 for a track / emergency use bike if the Falco didn't start. This was from when I had the TLR which I had loads of electrical troubles with. After crashing the 999 I still need to do some work and get the belts sorted and so it has become the donor until I get the Falco forks back.

999 forks were a bit shorter but the same diameter. I didn't try fitting falco wheel and axel but the mudguard didn't want to fit easily. If I get time I will try fitting wheel and axel.

Will readup how to post photos.

cheers

Cheers for the info and pics, very interesting.

Are they showas too? the preload adjusters look identical. Makes me wonder how similar the internals are.

I actually think they look really good, with the gold stantions and chrome tubes, especially on the flame theme (same as mine :D)

Regarding the wheel and mudguard, the geometry looks very similar, i'd be tempted to give fitting the original falcos, if nothing more than for the information whether they fit or not!

Yes they are Showas with the exact same out tube size so will fit up exactly but they are shorter hence fitting almost flush at the top. From emailing with reactive suspension they have similar internals but as standard they work way better than the standard Falco forks.

I am about to get the Falco forks re-valved for road riding as I commute a lot and then when I get them back send the 999 forks off to have K Tech pistons fitted which will (I think) give a harder ride but perfect for the track and hard braking.

I am hoping to do the airbox (car door seal) mod soon and then think I will need to think about a different chip but haven't researched that yet.

If I get a chance this weekend I will try and fit up the Falco wheel and spindle.

cheers

front end...

#73 Post by GregD-UK » Fri May 29, 2015 12:38 pm

Hi all,

That looks a worthwhile alternative option for the front end. The mudguard makes it look sharper, and as you say an improvement, then that is a good result. Well done, problem is not many 999 donor bikes kicking about up here :smt012

Good work
