Another Meet-Up / BikeSafe ??
Not wishing to detract from Paddy's Ride-out, I've had a bit of an idea for an additional Ride-out (not to compete with Paddy's meet-up but to expand our season of meeting opportunities).
There's another thread that's picked up on BikeSafe and the differing cost of these courses around the country.
If there are a number of us that would like to do a course, why don't we have a look around to find out where the "better value" courses happen to be and then investigate whether we can get a bit of a block booking on one of them.
It would give us the chance to meet up, make a bit of a weekend of things and improve our skills at the same time (or at least give us the ability to stick it down on our next insurance renewal form).
So, firstly, is anyone interested?
We can then start thinking about where and when - and investigate whether plod can accommodate a group of us that don't necessarily reside in "their patch".
Here's a link to the BIKESAFE website.
Thoughts?

The Delicate Sound of Thunder
I bet it costs more'n £35 to do it, what with the distance/food/fuel costsFalcoholic wrote:For all you tight wads that don't wanna pay for it email these guys.

Yeah - but it depends how you account for it - for me, those go down as the costs to meet up with my mates on the forum .... or if I want to look at it differently, those are the costs of doing Bikesafe with the benefit that I see my mates for free.Gio wrote:

Of course, you EX-BIKERS may feel a little left out at this biking-centred activity .....

We done a bikesafe last year but could not make the second day. It cost us £50 each for two days training. The second day was really an evauation of the first day and then some fun and games on a coned out course (which we missed).
Some insurance companies offer a discount (ebike for one) if you have completed the bikesafe course.
Money allowing I would be up for it

Done ours at Merseyside bikesafe. It started in wirral and we traveld through North Wales. I reccomend any bikesafe course.sabestian wrote:Count me in - if it is not too far from Kent.
50 quid per two days? Where did you find it Paddy? In Kent it's 55 per day, in most of counties in fact. In London they cost 30 per day. Learning to ride through London - that sounds like a challenge - I've never even been there yet.
FFS, he's in Scottyland, most bikers are down south England, costs to me going to Scotland would be £55-60 each way, B&B x 2, it'd be £200+ by the time its done, better to subsidize his fuel and pay for the course down here between about 10 or 12 of us. Bet more would show up as wellD-Rider wrote:Yeah - but it depends how you account for it - for me, those go down as the costs to meet up with my mates on the forum .... or if I want to look at it differently, those are the costs of doing Bikesafe with the benefit that I see my mates for free.Gio wrote:

As a post script to BikeSafe, I first got interested in doing it at the G-Mex Bike Show in Manchester about 4.5 years ago. Helpful plod on the stand, but... and get this... he said Greater manchester Police did not get funding to do BikeSafe because there were not enough deaths of bikers in the GMP beat. "You need to go to North Wales or Cheshire to get on a course, because that's where the Manc. riders died!!!!"
Probably changed now though.

Didn't think we'd decided on a venue yet (or even decided that we'd do it at all come to that).
The suggestion was for a get-together, doing something to improve our skills and trying to find a way to do that in a way that didn't cost us too much.
Now, that may be in Scotland or it may be in some other agreeable part of these shores .... it's all up for grabs ....
It will probably come down to whether there are enough wanting to do it and which (if any) police force can accommodate us.
BTW the assumption that most are based in the south may not be true - we've a lot of Falconeers in Scotland, the North East, the North West and (even) East Anglia .... as well as those in the South and the Midlands (as well as the other places I've not mentioned).
[I'm assuming that our continental, US-based and Ausie riders will not be making the journey]
Ah ok sorry I didn't realise its a one bike make meetD-Rider wrote:Uh ?!?Gio wrote:
