Just passed the MOT retest - after failing due to worn rear pads - rather embarrassing considering I'd spent all that time rebuilding the front brakes.

The first MOT since I bought it. Only realised a few weeks after it had run out sometime in January.. I'd mistreated it a bit doing 200 miles a week over winter and since all the disc bobbins had stiffened up again I thought it was time to convert them to fully floating (should have just gone straight for full floating when I rebuilt them with custom bobbins and new rotors).

Decided to clean up the caliper pistons and re-lube the seals while I was at it.

Also needed to replace the front brake light switch which meant cutting off the wing mirror who's captive bolt was no longer captive and couldn't be undone and getting a replacement. Replaced the switch and stripped the instruments to clean the zebra strip with some alcohol - I only had gin but it worked.

And as soon as I replaced the front switch the rear switch decided to fail. It wouldn't come off so I replaced it with a banjo bolt pressure switch off ebay (about £12 for a goodridge stainless item).

Changed the oil, changed the spark plugs, replaced the stretched and leaky airbox gasket, inspected the clutch diaphragm for leaks and clutch for wear, buggered up putting it back together so had to drop the oil again to redo the clutch..

Ordered new rear pads from Wemoto on Monday evening and they turned up this morning so I popped them in at lunchtime.

The MOT guy apologised for bending the stand and bounced it up and down a few times and we both agreed it wasn't about to bend or snap in normal use and if I was really worried he'd take it in and bend it back. It actually leans over a little more reassuringly now so I'm inclined (pun intended) to leave it. I think it may be a bubsywoo jobbie..

Really happy to have it back on the road so my round :)

Well done on the mot work but please don't be fooled by the side stand.
It's a hollow leg,bending is the first part of the process, breaking is the next, I can't say when it will break but I can say it will break

And don't get him to bend it back because that'll just fatigue it even more. If I was you I'd use a paddock stand when the bike is parked in the garage just to be safe till it's sorted.

Thanks for the input chaps. I've leant on it, sat on it with the stand down, bounced it up and down and it shows no sign of either bending or snapping and is currently leaning at a lovely wind-proof angle.

That said the VTR one I ordered will be here next week so something to play with over time..

goes back to drinking alone in the corner

Ah no need to be stingy - chuck a whole handful in there. Whiskey made from just one grain is little more than water with a seed floating in it.
