....isn't nice, but it seems the tank is pressurising causing fuel to weep through the filler cap which when opened releases said pressure and fuel sprays out.
I've checked the tank breathers haven't been pinched and did the same with the fuel line any thing else I should check for as I've recently had the tank off to do fuel pump/tank leak...oh and it ran out of fuel last week.

Have you checked out the internal tank hoses. They are notorious for clogging up. I had to spend a very laborious time with a length of wire (one of the solid cables in household Twin & Earth, as I recall) and an air line on the blue Falco. I think i was using a vacuum cleaner, a piece of wire and an air line at one point.

i've had some wire down them but only got a short length, never had the issue prior to re-sealing the fuel pump.. i did run it dry last week after mot but thought nothing of it until i saw fuel weeping pas the cap, opened her up and woosh was like old faithful

it's usually just the ally nipples at the base of the tank that get furred up.
Take them out and if you can blow through the pipes then you know it's them.
Many years ago I ran drill's though mine until it was good and wide and it never furred up since
