Guilty without charge
Finally got the starter button to activate after tremendous fun tracking down and replacing corroded relay and diode connectors, only to find the resident Yuasa hasn't enough oomph to turn the engine over without sounding like a 60 a day smoker climbing the stairs.
It's been 5 months since the bike ran. Even piggybacking the previous Yuasa or Motobatt there still ain't enough amps on offer to avoid stalling the thing by opening the throttle.
My charger say the Yuasa is *strong* after a diagnostic but it looks like I'm going to have to fork out for yet another battery. I'll ask around and see if someone's got a spare car battery just to get the old dear running and prove there's not another issue (such as messing up the removal of the datatool alarm).

Has your Falco ever turned over like this?

Does not sound top notch. I'm assuming every lead on the starting circuit is good and tight.( both pos and neg )
Avoid too many starting attempts with battery/starter problems,you will damage the starter clutch.
Sounds like the battery was running out of ooomph in mere seconds,now you need to determine what is at fault.
Hopefully a grown up will be along with some more info for you soon.

So, more starting polava from my Falco. I really don't seem to have much luck with batteries! Despite using the bike most days and it living on an optimate when it's at home.
I've been stranded in Coventry for a couple of days now. The starter solenoid decided it would stick on at 2.30am on Sunday morning. Completely drained the battery in about a minute. The bike will fire up from a jump start, but it dies again after a minute or so. I find this a bit strange, I thought it should be able to fire up from a jump start and then not die. I haven't had any previous issues with the alternator or charging circuit.
I got the starter solenoid replaced yesterday with yet another 150 amp one (this last one lasted for 5 years) But the battery, unfortunately, has not recovered from being completely flat. I only have access to a trickle charger, and it just hasn't brought it back to life like I would hope it would have. This current MotoBatt is only 2 years old.
I've just removed it, and it seems the battery has bulged slightly. So I suspect a cell has shorted out or something. So it's heading for the (recycling) bin.
I've decided to go for the Yuasa TTZ14s, with 230CCA. Halfords are delivering it tomorrow.
SO, my question is, if I jump start it, shouldn't the bike be able to run without needing charge from the battery, even at tickover?

I think you need somewhere close to 12 volts, after starting in those naughty little wires to make the magic happen...
The bike simply cant run the ECU and other systems on a lesser voltage.
If the bike fires up on a jump start then leave it running on a fast tickover, measure what voltage you got on the battery leads, if it is good then you should be able to disconnect your slave battery after a few mins
PS if a battery cell fails it reverses its polarity and drains the other cells,turns into a mega vampire parasite

No Start...
Hi all,
Try emptying the fuel tank and put fresh petrol in it.... Had duff fuel on the 1st day of my annual joint to scotland in sept last. Changed battery, coil packs, spark plugs etc. Then, changed fuel, had some duff super unleaded in edinburgh...
Guess the tight jocks didn't buy it so the tank was full and went off.....
