My big crash didn't put me off biking cos I still can't remember the actual collision and I was knocked unconcious so don't remember sliding down the road. I did have a very close shave last year which made me question getting back on the bike for a while, but we were en-route home from Scotland so I didn't have much choice and once I'd been riding (very steadily!) for about an hour I felt very differently about it.

It has to be your decision (and no one elses - regardless of whether they're saying "get back on" or "please don't get another bike") but I don't think you're in the right frame of mind to decide just now.

Take some time, let the pain subside and see how you feel in a month or two. Personally, I couldn't contemplate life without a bike now I know how it feels. I've wasted too much of my life already.

In the words of a good friend (sadly departed - not bike related btw) "You're born, you die. If you're lucky, inbetween you get to ride motorcycles"

Well here's the update on my visit to the docs.

He's now got the xrays of the bent bits.

Hairline fracture in the shoulder blade, left knee has another chip out of it but should now repair itself as its strapped up, a crack in left hip/pelvis area (its on the bit that sticks out) fractured right thumb, chipped left elbow and a soft spot on my head (right side) that must have connected with the bike (no I can't remember hitting it) The doc reckons I might have come down on the luggage as it doesn't hurt now and we can't find a bruise. Left ankle has a bruise caused by twisting, however I can walk properly now.

I'm off for a drive now, got to start using the bits again :smt003

BTW I've made my mind up, I am stopping riding, I've enjoyed it, but its time to call it a day. There's lots of things I love just as much as riding and I don't want to miss out on them.

I'll still have one bike though when the Falco's gone and thats the CB400/4, which is going to made into a show bike. Maybe one of you might be lucky if you turn up and get a ride on it, oh and I'll still be here, I love bikes and I've made lots of friends on them, thats something that'll never go.

Peter

Not sure whether that bang on the head has knocked some sense into you or knocked you brainless :smt002
Launching yerself at the tarmac will be a good habit for you to break though.
Best wishes for whatever path you take. :smt001

Can't have sent me brainless, didn't have enough to worry about :smt005

I'll still go to trackdays to take pics and admire the bikes. As well as stop off at bike places and look in showrooms etc.

BTW Sam do you fancy having a cam onboard on your trackday?

Shame about the decision Gio, not to ride again.
But glad your not leaving, it wouldn't be the same without you.

All the best.

Got to respect your decision not to ride again, especially if you have loved it for so long, I suppose it can often take an experience like yours to make one see sense. One of my work colleagues has recently bought a ZX7R after a break of a few years, but has just sold it again! My work environment revolves around a good slagging and I was fully expecting him to come up with....cant afford it, wife wont let me keep it type excuses...in which case he was going to get both barrels. He simply said that his bottle had gone...instant respect! no slagging required.

Hope you heal quickly Gio.

On Falco bits, I bought my Falco in January as a stolen recovered. The front-end was OK, but the fairing was bust, the sub-frame was well bent, the clocks completely buggered and the headlight was broken on the rear casing but the glass was intact. Fairing lowers were scratched on one side, indicator missing, splash shield broken. Luckily the bike had crash bungs fitted which took the brunt of the imact and slide damage.
Fairing and its bits went to Dream Macine in Nottingham and cost £150 and was near as damn perfect when it came back, subframe I tried to straighten but the large tubes were snapped and I couldn't get it lined up correctly, so a dealer in Sheffield sold me a new one for £199, the clocks were from a salvage firm in South Wales for £100. I got a new fairing lower from a guy in Germany for £15 which also had a new indicator attached. I also bought a fairing bottom cowl from E-bay for £5 but didn't use it. The rest was carefully reassembled and superglued/epoxy resined so that it was as strong as the original. It now looks spot on, and only cost me about £2,300 in all.
There are loads of Falco plastics on E-bay at the moment (red) including a fairing upper.
I've never crashed a bike, and I must admit, the thought really does frighten me, and at 52, healing is all that much harder. Only you can make the decision with that one, so whatever you do, it's the right thing!
Good luck!

It's time you got into the classic scene, Peter!

I know you love bikes, biking and all things along those lines, maybe it's the leather fetish, who knows!?

Heal quickly mate, but dont get rid of your leathers and helmet just yet. I hear Boxhill is the place to go on a weekend, have a break, visit there a few times in the car and look maybe to an older somewhat slower biking scene.

I hear there's one or 2 classic shows up Cambridge way every year and of course there's classic (races?) on tracks. It might need a pilot tho, question is who :smt002

I imagine you'll have a go at me at the Barn, but my minds made up.

S'ok mate. The Honda will persuade you. :smt003

Any objection to me moving this thread to General so the remainder of RS can join in? It's grown out of being Falco or Aprilia specific.

How weird I thought it was in General :smt015 as usual :smt005

Be my guest :smt001

Cheers Thumper and the rest of you.

I've not said ought on a few other sites and won't as either I've only been there 5 minutes or they are like a lot of bike forums at this time of year, they've had quite a few offs.
