Looking to get an Aprilia Falco and have spotted one!

#1 Post by AFPU » Mon Oct 20, 2014 2:50 pm

Evening all

I am a newbie to the forum and contemplating my first Aprilia as a slightly more practical addition to my current 1995 Ducati 600 Supersport. Having scanned the forum for useful information on any issues (of which there appear to be few) I am looking at an SL1000 Falco.

In particular I have been interested in this example for sale by Moto Strada in Shipley, Yorkshire. Being based in the South East of England I am not really able to get up to view it so it would have to be a slightly blind purchase. Whilst there might be ones closer I like the colour scheme of this one, which appears to be quite different to most pictures I see of Falco's, so not sure if is it a UK bike or an import.

Does anyone know of the bike or might have viewed it? Any info would be appreciated.

Aladinsaneuk from the Aprilia Forum suggested that Blinkey lived nearby and might be willing to take look for me as I am a southerner.

Regards
Gary

Used to pop in the shop when in the area but always over-priced so gave up looking.

Nice looking bike, fair mileage and the Service light is also lit up.

I didnt realise the foot rest hangers could polish up so nice - might look into that - lol.

I wouldnt be pushed into a sale this time of year, post Xmas, if you have the cash you are in the 'driving seat'.

As nice as it looks, this one catches my eye - similar lower but Ohlins rear shock fitted:

Seemed a fairish price the Moto Strada one and I have asked them the usual question about service history etc and am waiting a response.

I saw the one that you posted the link to but was not sure about is as it appears to be a car dealer, but I'll follow up with them. Like the other one it has the belly pan, which I prefer the look of and as an extra seems to be pricey on its own.

I see what you mean about the footrest hangers which on most others are black....hadn't noticed that. Seems to be the same on both Falco's that they have for sale.

As far as my Ducati 600SS is concerned I was planning on hanging on to it, so no sale required. Although the wife would prefer it if I sold the Ducati rather than keep two bikes......but I am sure that there is room for negotiation or compromise!

I am happy to bide my time over the coming months, no burning desire to buy but particularly liked the colour scheme of the Moto Strada one with the red belly pan. Looking around the £2,000 mark so if anyone knows of one then please let me know

The silver one for me £500 cheaper not that much more mileage looks to have been looked after ( both do actually ) but has the ohlins rear shock and Oz wheels thats probably getting on for another £500 worth. Both however need their stands replacing. If you're a Southener then Swanage would be closer , could you go and have a look and get a feel for the bike.
And by the way don't ask Blinkey to have a look at it for you because he'll end up buying it for himself :smt005

I admit the black one does look pretty, but... way overpriced for the mileage and spec.
Silver one far more bang for your buck !
This is the worst time to be selling a bike so dont rush in, if you got the dollars ready then im sure you will find a bargain.
look for one with non standard rear shock and replaced sidestand, all the cosmetics can be sorted later.
Also as Nickety said te 'service' light is on with the black un, expect to pay £400 and up for major service work like valve clearance work ect.
Good luck !

Thanks everyone. As you say the Silver Swanage one does look good value. I'll follow up on it to find out what history it has etc.

Just checked and its about a 4 hour drive to Swanage so might be a bit of a stretch. Anyway there is no rush as I am already a happy v-twin one with my Duke, but the Falco seems to be a much better bet all round and more usable. I'll keep the Duke for a bit of classic fun.

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Just wanted to let you know that I have put the Falco search on hold for a while, at least until the spring.

Thanks for the help and advice to date and no doubt I'll pitch in now and then.

Happy riding! :smt006
