Anyone know what could be causing this?

#1 Post by squadron Nero » Sat Sep 27, 2014 4:13 pm

Strange water marks appear on my frame after a run. It's only happend the last 3 or 4 times but the bike hasn't been wet nor have I gone through any puddles or the like. No signs of any leaks and it's only on the aluminium, both sides of the bike. They wipe off easily with a damp cloth and don't reappear unless I take it for a ride. Any ideas?

If you have washed the bike recently it could be water that has caught in the frame webs on the back side of the frame.

I clean it after every use but I rarely hose it down or use a bucket and water. I'd have thought it's been way too long since the last time I did that for it to be the answer.
Good shout though :smt001

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

You're not finding all that power a bit too frightening are you?
Corresponding damp patches in your riding trousers might be the give-away.

could be jism from the pleasure of the ride?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

A pinhole leak that only leaks when the system is fully pressurised. That could be a winner :smt023

150 miles covered today and not one water mark.

I have a small tear in my cover, I have gaffa taped it up but it's possible some water has gotten through and sitting somewhere until at speed it sprays out. Checked the fluids this morning and they didn't require any top ups. Let the bike get hot and thoroughly checked for leaks but couldn't find any so I think I've solved it. New cover hunting now.

As the beast lives under a cover, I'd put my money on condensation from areas you can't see like under the tank.
150 miles is more than enough to build up pressure in the cooling system
