Diag code -1 is nothing to worry about - it's just a feedback from your throttle position sensor. When setting the TPS you aim for a diag of 0 .... but that's with things adjusted differently to the normal operating situation so a diag of -1 is not unusual and is not indicative of a problem.
Just a thought. If it doesn't work, did you get the chip in the right way round and were all the pins properly inserted in the socket. The end of the chip with pin 1 will normally have a notch in it - either that or pin 1 will be identified with a dot (don't make any assumptions from labels that are stuck to them).
If it is knackered, then treat yourself to a Gabro chip - tell him the config of your bike and he'll provide a suitable chip.
In the meantime the standard chip will be fine - running on map 2 (ie the wire snipped)

Actually had a lot to so with living in Britain its our mind set just like the French make rules so they can ignore them the Spanish just do what they like Eric etc
No one knocked the advice well meaning or otherwise but like everything it depends what degree you want to take it
It's also based in the culture of responsibility our system becomes less about personal responsibility at some point you just have to bite the bullet.
The petrol station gloves would depend on the material and the conditions the anti stat bracelets are worthless unless used in a controlled environment and one would have to specify exactly before dismissing opinions against them.
Only people I've ever seen use them since the early 90"s has been due to being obliged to and then they also used the correct tools such as a chip extractor which we forgot to suggest
:)
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

Geoff, the advice is given because on a forum like this we try to give the best advice possible for people that might not be so familiar with electronic assembly and failure modes of electronic components.
Sure I don't use a wrist strap when swapping chips like this but then again I have several decades experience and I know what bits to touch and how to minimise static. I understand the dangers and so avoid the problems. Inexperienced people are far less likely to understand potential problems (not because they are stupid but because they've not got the experience) and more likely to cock it all up if they don't take recognised precautions (precautions that ARE recognised the world over)
Yes if you knacker it, it may only cost a few 10s of £ to replace ... but why cause yourself that PITA if you don't need to .... bike out of action until you get a replacement .... money spent that didn't need to be.
Even worse if you damage the integrity of the chip and it fails at a future point when you are miles from home .... knowing the luck of people on this forum, at night in the pouring rain.
I'm not talking out of my arse on this, for the past 19 yrs I've headed up an electronics and software team in the automotive industry and I'm a chartered engineer (none of which makes me better than anyone else but does give some understanding)
If people don't want to follow the advice, that's fine - I'm not going to make them. However I will offer that advice so people can swap their chips over with minimal risk of damage.
Smilinjack clearly knows what he's on about too and we are saying the same things.
In another field, if I were to chop my arm off, I'd listen to Pete's expert advice that might recommend some kind of medical intervention rather than me just shrugging it off as a flesh-wound having watched Monty Python's excellent Holy Grail

a thought has just occured to me. Does the std chip have a daughter board? if it does should i remove it? or should the falcofighter one come with a daughter board?

That's a good question!
I can't answer with regards to a stock chip, but my SL-Carbon chip was mounted in a daughter-board. To install the Gabro chip I removed the whole lot (SL chip + daughter board).
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Stock chip does not sit on a daughter board (nor does a Gabro chip, a renegade chip, a Dr Rossi chip or a Forza chip)
As Viking says, the SL chip does sit in a daughter board (I'd forgotten that) .... my excuse is I've never had one .....
I've never seen the fighter chip but I'd not be at all surprised if it also used a daughter board (as I bet it's very similar to the SL chip). The FP1413 chip also sits on a daughter board.
If your chip is supposed to have a daughter board and it isn't fitted, that would certainly explain it not working.

Can't recall exactly as I sent my fighter chip over to Blinkey so he may remember better I'd be tempted to say it didn't though I would confirm with Blinkey if I was you

Hmm the plot thickens. Seeing that chip makes me think it should have one because I thought the falco fighter chip was a rebadged sl carbon chip. Hopefully someone can put me right on that? I suppose the chances of getting a daughter board if it does need one are nil? Unless anyone has one floating around

The falco fighter chip was a straight swap for the standard one.

Tolerance will be our undoing.

Ah that's pointing to the chip being buggered then

Well I've never seen one so I can't say categorically ..... but having searched it does look as though it should have a daughter board.
The aprilia picture of the kit shows it on one:
http://www.ultimateparts.net/ri.php?f=. ... .jpg&h=250
The only (really crap quality) picture I've seen of it shows it on one
The Ultimate Parts website lists it as having the same part number (AP8796545) as the SL EPROM / Daughter board assembly - suggesting it's the very same part (which is what I thought was the case).

What's a bit confusing is that doesn't agree with Geoff and Jay's recollections

The Aprilia RC chip that should come with the Aprilia cans does sit on a daughter board.

Hmm the plot thickens???
seems the po may have taken the chip out but left the board in the bike prior to selling it. What are the chances of being able to pick a board up to try?
Does anyone have one they want to get shut of? Long shot i know.

the missing daughter board would be a rare item to source - I know that I have never seen a spare one - and that would be the kind of thing that HAC would obtain....
I would probably suggest a gabro bespoke item - I know that there are other chips, made for specific mods, BUT - every one i know who has had a gabro has rated it highly
(even I have considered one... and mine would be one of his more exotic specials!)
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

If the fighter chip needed a daughter board then surely the pins would not line up with the mother board ( comparing it to the SL ) ?
Moving on, if the fighter chip is a re badged SL chip then Mr Malarone (Gabro) stated that it is a very rough map and wastes a lot of fuel.
I know where I'd looking to spend my money now !
Stock chip is fine for now but Gabro is a vast improvement
