Failed MOT!
... for having a non-UK spec headlight!
My Falco is from Tax Motorcycles in Peterborough. Do you think I have a case to phone and demand they make the bike UK-spec?

The light is higher on the RHS casuing it to shine into oncoming traffic as its made for continental roads i.e. driving on the RHS.
I bought it 2nd-hand from Peterborough Yamaha.. but the original supplier was Taz Motorcycles. I knew it was a parallel import but never worried about it. The MOT tester would not let me just stuck some black tape over the offending spot - but I am sure I have seen cars on the road with such tape?

You should have been fine with a tape on the light. They shouldn't care how you make it work, as far as it doesn't blind anyone. Google "mot instructions" to check what do testers check. Well, what they are meant to check.Syltiz wrote:The light is higher on the RHS casuing it to shine into oncoming traffic as its made for continental roads i.e. driving on the RHS.

I'll need Euro spec headlight so don't get rid of it!

Thanks fellas.
In the electronic manual I downloaded from somewhere (sorry - cant remember where), it says that the headlamp is adjustable "in accordance with the regulations in force in the country where the vehicle is used". It goes on to describe the left knob on the headlight assembly which turns the beam left or right.
I think this might be all I need to adjust? Does anybody know?

You might be lucky Syltiz - and it's certainly worth a try .... but I wouldn't be surprised if this only adjusts beam direction and does nothing about the beam cut-off.Syltiz wrote:Thanks fellas.

I've just looked in the Falco parts catalogue (not the aprilia yorkshire one as that will probably only list UK parts).
It lists 3 Headlight variants:
8124393 - for these markets: I,A,D,DK,GR,E,NL,P,CH,B,F
8124744 - for these markets: UK,J,AUS
8124884 - for USA
So it seems:
* The first one is for RHD markets except USA
* The second for all LHD markets
* The third is a special one for USA (not sure why - but I guess they have some regulation that requires a different version)
Hope this helps (even if it is potentially bad news)
Yeah... D-Rider you are 100% right (unfortunately
)
There is no way to adjust the light shining up onto the right.. other than to tape it off.
On a positive note, when I got out of the gym there was a message from a breaker that he has one for me... I will phone tomorrow and hopefully get it sorted.

I have a spare headlight which i assume is from a uk bike.
Its got 1 maybe 2 mounting lugs snapped and a small scratch under the lip ( where the glass bends round at the bottom) but if all you need is the reflector then it should be fine BUT I cant get it to you before the weekend unless you come to durham and get it
edit: balls, it took me 4 minutes to write that, I'm so slow
