hmm decisions decisions
so, tomorrow i start to pop the mille swing arm in - but
the mille shock i have fitted really could do with a good sort out - it works fine, but looks manky
(No comments from a mr danowat about cleaning it either!)
Basically the white spring needs replacing/recovering
am seriously tempted to pop it all together using my pristine original blue model....
I don't think i would lose anything for the two weeks while it is away being serviced, and i can't see that it would make much of a difference - would it??
thoughts folks?
(Swopping the shocks over is no biggie now i have an abba stand :) !)

Yeah Right!danowat wrote:Blue shock is perfectly fine to use, I would bet you a box of donuts that the "actual", not perseved or placebo after, difference between the shocks is negligable anyway.
Aslong as the blue shock isn't worn out, go for it
Blue = pile of poo
Ohlins = controlled rear suspension.
I've swapped several times between the two and the REAL difference is significant ..... at least with the two shocks that I've got.
However, as a temporary measure while Aladinsaneuk gets his better shock fettled, it's a good solution to keep the bike on the road.
It's definitely not a placebo effect. The difference is huge! I'm not an expert rider but I could notice the difference just sitting on a bike, not to mention riding it. It's like changing from bouncing budget touring bike to a firm sport bike.
BTW both shocks on factory settings, sag set, virtually brand new and with proper linkages.

I still have the blue spring shock, albeit setup properly, and my bike is in no way a "bouncy budget touring bike", I bet my arse I could run rings around anyone with an aftermarket shock on the track with my blue spring on.

Yeah .... but since having a few years without a (working) bike I'm still not as fast as I was and, knowing my luck, the "owat" bit of Danowat's name is an alternative spelling of "Pedrosa".Stokesy wrote:Looks like a challengedanowat wrote:I bet my arse I could run rings around anyone with an aftermarket shock on the track with my blue spring on.![]()
Besides I've never ridden on a track .... more familiar with the bumps and potholes of B-roads and lanes (the places where that blue springer struggles to cope).
....... Excuses? ..... Me?
..... mind you ..... for a box of doughnuts ..... very tempting ....... but as Danowat seems to have changed the prize to his arse, I think I'll give that a miss

blue spring= emulsion shock; On sporty use the oil will get foamy(heat+movement) and loss of damping. Results a bouncy shock.
white spring; due the extra cannister , filled with compressed co2 (11bar) ,divided by a piston, which keeps the oil under pressure so a lot less foam will appear
And it had height adjustment so you can cranck the rear up for quicker steering which the falco can use.
My 2 cents : white spring is okay for street and light track use.
Blue is okay for bikes like cb500 etc but not good enough for a strong sporty bike.
Offcourse its not a dangerous piece of crap but by far the weakest link on the falco and the white springer (although they are getting old) are a very cheap sufficient replacement in compare with the expensive Ohlins gold stuff.
Its on the falco to create some space with the Mille, its only advantage....!!

Go for it Pete, should be no problems for a couple of weeks.
Blue spring from 2001 model aint bad, but White spring is def. better, especially as it has 4 way adjustment. The only issue you could have is adjusting the ride height with the new swingarm.
Just a question for other people, do you need to adjust the ride height when you use the Mille swinger on a Falco, or does the ride height come out the same as with the Falco arm??

having followed behind dano - i would not race against him... trust me on that - well beyond my capability
there is a difference between the two shocks though Dan - and it makes a difference to even a slowpoke like me. with the white shock on, the bike has more response and is more nimble around the twisty bits
when i get the shock back from being sorted, and i fit it, you are more than welcome to try it to see what you think
all of that means i am going to pop the blue back on for a couple of weeks :)
I am planning to use the mille attachments though .....

Well, my old Blue Sachs was pretty fooked but I noticed an immediate difference when I put the Mille Yellow shock on, (itself a 4000 miler so not exactly new either), and an even bigger difference when I finally found and fit the RSV linkages!
Just gotta get it all setup now...

Just to add my 2 cents worth, I've just replaced the brand new (well 600 mile old) Tuono shock with an Ohlins from a Tuono Factory and the difference (yet again) is remarkable.
No doubt though a good rider (and it sounds like Dano knows what he is doing) will still make the blue shock work for him, but the difficult thing to describe is the quality of the ride the Ohlins offers, the subtlety and feel that a high quality shock offers all the time whether on track or road is worth every penny (IMHO)
