Falco Oil Change

#1 Post by Galileo » Mon Mar 31, 2014 12:55 pm

Hi Guys, just bought my first Falco and need some advice from the experts.

Need oil / filter change ( the bike that is, not me) and need to know best oil for the job.

First of many questions no doubt.

Cheers.

Hi and welcome

Ah oil ..... there's a major discussion point.

What colour is your Falco (seriously) - this can affect the advice.

Also do you have the original short filter or the long filter that Aprilia has moved over to (after they stopped making Falcos)?
Take a picture of the filter cover and we can tell you.

Hi D Rider

If it's any help and to save my blood pressure, the filter cover looks exactly the same as the pic in the owners' manual.

Ah OK that'll be the short filter then :smt004

04 Flamingo red and Black - Good news you don't have one that's fussy about oil.

15W50 either Semi-synth or fully synth

Some of the older ones won't tollerate fully-synth and some won't even tolerate 15W50 semi .... Aprilia gave a dispensation that in those circumstances they could be run on 10W40 - but 15W50 is the "standard"
The problem with some of those older ones was clutch slip.

Many thanks my friend - a great help.

As I said, had the Falco a couple of weeks and still getting to know the bike which is obviously a big change from my Blade.

All good so far, and looking forward to some decent weather to enjoy the fab Scottish roads.

Bike is a ( genuine ) 16k miler with all sensible extras.

When I get the chance I'll post a pic or two.

Oh, and I owe you a brew if your passing my door which is around 12 miles west of Edinburgh.

Thanks again!

If I can get myself up to the land of the wild porridge eating haggis, I'll be sure to drop by for a brew.

Cheers :smt030

I'd better do it soon before they shut the border dividing this forum in a similar way to the Berlin of years gone by.

Just so you know, there's some debate over which colour is the fastest, but there's no doubt that the Flamingo Red is the most effective moistener of the ladies panties.

We told you that sponge rear seat was a bad idea in a country where it rains a lot.

For the record, we don't get much rain in The Peoples Republic of Scotland.

It only rains between showers.

Perhaps wearing a continence pad while straddling a falco if you wearing a kilt may be an idea?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
