ten extra BHP....
as some are aware both D-Rider and myself have been looking to do an exhaust mod - originally done by Jorge of Renegade when he was racing milles
this mod involves putting in a balance pipe or two on the exhaust collector
(NB - this is ONLY for bikes that have changed over too mille headers, collector box etc!)
long and the short of it - http://apriliaperformance.myfastforum.org/about747.html
that dyno shows that even a single balance pipe will give 3 bhp at the top end. the mid range effect of both balance pipes is pretty staggering though
Griff's bike is a mille btw - early generation, and does have fairly open cans and the hooked renegade airkit
He does have a PC3 but it is not specifically mapped yet....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Pipe Mod...
Hi all,
OK, so this is only for the mille conversion
Is there anything we can do to the normal falco set-up to achieve same result or similar? I did read through all the link posts to this that someone has thought about re-shaping the piece where it is siamesed to a slightly bigger section and more larger. My only question is, will it work? Alot of guys have done it on a mille (various years) and will it flatten that 5K spot and increase our overall power
OK, so this is only for the mille conversion

My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

.... and only if it's fabricated right - I've seen some lately where the angles are all wrong where the link pipes join the main pipes.
Think they've been knocked up by people that don't understand it.

Know a little about the science.
That will be pressure waves caused by the expansion of the exhaust gases through the extra tubes synchronizing with the valve timing at certain revs, to pull more exhaust out and lower the pressure in the cylinder so more fuel mix can be "sucked" in on the inlet stroke...
Quite what pipe configuration will give benefit in a target rev range can be roughly computed but measuring to confirm what actually works is more reliable.

Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today
Not necessarily but to have the mod done in the way that Greg-D's mate was able to so that the single pipe conversion can be fitted with a standard Falco oil tank (which looks better than the Mille-R one I had previously) and gives a nicer power delivery were the main things.fatboy wrote:So you want, need, long for, drool over the prosect of an extra 10 BHP...

Which I did more than 9 years ago .....Aladinsaneuk wrote:Or just fit a belly pan....
Don't think it is of great relevance - other than the BP fits better with the (better looking) Falco oil tank.

Right the reason I asked is because I have had some pipes made to do a mid section for the futura.
When at my meet last year I looked at the pipes on Grahams bike. He said that the pipes were not joined to make the pipes "Balanced"
He noticed no difference in performance.
He did say that the exhausts may be a little louder.
I think they look nice too.
