Ah OK - well if they say that, then that probably saves a bit of hassle

My Motobatt was fully charged when it arrived, my last Yuasa battery failed days after the warranty expired.
The Yuasa is a fair bit dearer than the motobatt, so I paid for a reputation the battery did not live up to.

While we're on the subject of changing batteries, is it absolutely necessary to zero the clock and rev limiter as it states in the manual? What are the consequences of not doing this when disconnecting the battery?

Never had to zero anything.

You will, of course, have to re-set the clock and the rev-warning light after you've fitted the battery.

I've gone for the motobatt, here's hoping for easier starting from now on! Thanks to you all for your input.

As well as a new battery I went for a 150amp starter solenoid, as people explained to me it's not the amps it's the quality of the contacts in the solenoid. it only cost about £17 so not really that much for better starting.

My Motobat battery lives on an optimiser all of the time so when I say I have had no bother I do go out of may way to keep it that way.

The Motobatt is fine, there are heftier batteries out there but I keep mine on a solar trickle charger... no problems.
Suggest using some thread locking comound when you fit the terminal adaptors on the terminal posts.
All will become clear when you get the battery !

Well, after claiming on here several times that I am still on the original factory battery, it's eventually fading after 8 years. It lives on an optimate and it's really struggling to fire her up now. Couldn't start her this weekend and it got noticably weaker after three attempts. So I have ordered a Motobat replacement and a scooter assisins starter relay (not sure if I really need this but people seem to recommend it).

We are only 13 days into 2014 and I'm already finding reasons to spend money on the Falco :smt001

Seemed to have missed all these posts! :smt017

Anyway.. Yes, Motorbatt.. BMW R100's are known for being a pig to start and more so with Boyer ignitions fitted. Fitted one to a friends bike in the summer.. Loves it. Don't let the size of the unit put you off.. They dunnarf pack a punch. :smt002

I haven't put the new battery in yet, I have left my bike standing uncharged for twenty days and decided to try and start it today, it fired up first thing no problems!! These Aprilias are funny old things aint they!

I have an exide, been fine. Left the bike for 2-3 weeks I think it was and it started first press of the button, never had any bother but then I don't think its been fitted a year yet.

Mine was similar, the original lasted around 8 years. Put on a standard Yuasa, it lasted about 15 months and died, (always been good for me on previous bikes).
Fitted a Dynavolt battery and a Scooter Assasins relay, and been perfect ever since.
Started it up to give it a run for the first for a couple of months this morning.
It is on a Ring version of an Optimate, and fired up instantly and ran perfectly, as it always does.

Never failed to start first time on a decent battery over almost ten years I have owned it.
