Changed the coolant yesterday, Aprilia must have had an off day when they designed the cooling system as it was easy and simple to do, measured what came out and put the same (nearly) amount back in, all done in just over an hour.
All I need now is a dry salt free day to give her a run.

Well Aprilia has had the last laugh after all, came into work and the temperature rocketed up to 91 degrees, I hadn't gone far so nipped back and put what was left over into the expansion tank but still the bike is running at 91 or so degrees.

I have undone the lids on both bottle to see if that will help remove any air lock that might be the cause, I will see how it runs home tonight.

I can't see how I could have bolloxed this up it was so easy to do.
I did not disconnect anything there are no leaks, any ideas anyone.

Air Lock.

"Burp" the tube that connects the top of the 2 radiators.
It's not easy to get at but this is where most people fail :smt003

That should sort it.

cheers for that, I should have known it would not be as easy as it was.

Just had a go over lunch time, we have a garage so I wheeled it in and tried to get to the pipe, being cold it was stiff and I hardly got any play on it, anyway I shall see if it did the trick on the way home if not it will be a couple of hours on Saturday morning again.

I did rather think you were getting away lightly.....

OK now I'm pissed off with this bike, I can't get the temperature back to 76 degrees as it has been running at for the last two years I have had it. I have burped the pipe between the rads but I still can't get the thing to run under 82 degrees.

does anyone have any ideas short of draining it again and restarting the whole process again.
bearing in mind it is not warm today I think 82 means there is a big problem.

What exactly do you mean, I have had a pipe wrench on it and squeezed it 50 times or more, is there anyway to "burp" it in such a way that you can actually see something happen.

Wasted a whole morning on this I can get it down to 76 but it then climbs again, going to drain it and start over tomorrow. :smt013

Try this

Run up to temperature

As it cools burp it

When cold top up main coolant - not the expansion tank!

Repeat a couple of times

Will try that next, just drained and re-filled it by the book, burped the pipes filled it to the neck and reset it after cool down. Still stubbornly stays at 82 degrees.
Running out of times when I can run the thing.
It will be next weekend now before I can check it again.

Just to make sure I'm doing everything I can to sort this do you "burp" the pipes with the system open or closed or caps on or caps off if you see what I mean.
