If I didn't have my ohlins, yes.
(Though I would verify which linkages it works with - probably Falco linkages is my guess from what's been said)

If you are that concerned I have a spare set of the correct linkages you can have for £25 plus postage
I do recall weary changing the shock damping / spring / what ever to make it correct
The falco was his first Aprilia - iirc he had a virtually full set before his rheumatoid arthritis forced the sales
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Thanks guys. I'm just trying to find what linkages to use.
Is there any way to tell?

Ok
This is coming from westy
Westy is a chap some of us know and trust
If he says it is fine on standard linkages - then it is
And yes - I would fit it

The yellow spring sachs shock is from which year mille?
I would like to put the shock to stock settings when fitting and need the manual.
thanks.

If it has been modified to work with Falco linkages, there won't be nominal settings as it is essentially a special.
You will need to set it up from scratch.
Firstly check tyre pressures
Then set static sag
Then adjust compression and rebound damping

If I measure the shock length eye to eye and compare them will that give me an indication of me needing different linkages?
Is there a guide on suspension setup anywhere?
Cheers

Nope - though trying to set it up might confirm whether you are trying to do so with the right linkages.
If Westy says it worked with Falco linkages, I'd assume that to be correct and see whether it could be set up OK ..... if not it probably needs Mille linkages

I have a copy of Griff's guide that I will eventually post up - but I want to make it a bit more Falco-oriented (general setup in there is Mille oriented).
PM me your email addy and I'll send you a copy - it is good.

When you say setup correctly, what is the main difference on using the newer Mille shck on old linkages?
Will I spot the problem straight away?
Thanks.

found these over on AF1,
If you use the 02 shock with the Falco plates and dog bone the spring will be way too soft. That is one big difference between the early linkage and 01 and later Mille linkage. The early linkage requires a much stiffer spring. The main difference in the action of the two linkages is revealed in the stroke length of the shock. The early linkage used a shock with shorter stroke length. Later linkage moves the shock mounting point a greater distance so it requires less spring and damping force to resist.
So if i have way too much sag and it's like a pogo stick i'll be needing linkages?

1. Falco shock used with later Mille linkages = Heavily oversprung and overdamped, shock will feel almost rigid, with very little 'give'.
2. Later Mille shock used with Falco linkages = floppier than a very floppy thing, shock will bottom out over quite modest bumps.
3. Falco shock with Falco linkages = ok, given the limitations of the blue spring Falco shock.
4. Later Mille shock with later Mille linkages = fine, no problems, nothing to see here, move along please.
The above assumes that the shocks are as standard - no revalving or re-springing.
If a Mille shock has been re-valved and re-sprung to suit Falco linkages (as mine has been) then results will be as for no. 3, but much better (easily as good as 4)

and as per my PM
it is worth getting your suspensions et up - if you cannot do it yourself, pay some one for it
(Turn up at a track day - there will be some one there doing it for 50 quid......)
