should i be worried?
been going like a dream of late but twice in the last couple of weeks a press of the starter was met with a whirring sound much like a starter motor turning that has not engaged with anything, rolled it back and forward in third gear a couple of times and starts fine on the button. first time i thought heyho, mechanical glitch but twice starts to worry me.....so should i be worried?
OOPS....There goes another pillion!!

I was afraid that the word "sprag" was going to come up, I'll have a read of the manual but i'm guessing it's probably not something i can tackle myself. Been on the hunt for a decent workshop with aprilia experience up this neck of the woods, have to look harder! thanks for the input guys.

Calmed down now and blinkey's pics n tips are a confidence booster, could be more straight forward than i thought and doing outside should not be a problem...weather permitting of course! probably obvious but i've got to ask, should i replace all the parts listed?

The sprag... Obviously
Stator cover gasket
Oil filter.
I bought all the above from Griffs.
The cost equated to about 125 quid. Plus oil
An oil filter can be sourced cheaper... Griff sells genuine ones.
I bought some oil from opie oils at 40 quid delivered for 4 litres of fully synthetic.
Not sure in the thread I added too. But put a thin smear of grease on both sides of the Stator cover gasket.
If for any reason the cover needs to be removed again the grease will prevent the gasket tearing

Tolerance will be our undoing.

Thanks, had had a look on suttons website and it appeared to be about twice that for just the sprag clutch? i've just renewed the relay and stripped n cleaned the connectors at the relay and starter motor but i'll still go ahead on the sprag, i'm feeling a certain amount of apprehension every time i go to start the bike.

Thanks for the heads up on the parts, ordered them on monday so waiting for them to arrive. Turns out that the AP boys are doing one of their trips up here but i was too late to get them to do it so back to plan A
I'm a little nervous to be honest although i'm used to applying heat to metals just not in an engine
Should i apply a bit of tension with the gear puller and then heat?
