Tested my trackbike yesterday

#1 Post by Pierre » Wed May 02, 2007 12:33 pm

And I dont mean MOT :smt003

Paid £35 for 1 till 4pm at teeside autodrome. Had to share it with 5! other bikes and a car and was way more relaxed than a normal trackday and was ideal to check to make sure I tightened everything up.

The engine thats in is my original falco engine that broke its sprag clutch which i [smug look until it explodes taking my toes with it] fixed for under £50. I cant belive how much faster than my road bike engine it is. Well, when i say faster i mean it wheelies on acceleration in 2nd and changing up into 3rd. Probably no faster but fking feels it :smt002 Probably just down to having no fairing, clocks, dashboard etc and never having ridden with the oz wheels on before.

Only dissapointment was my camera wouldnt record due to vibrations so I'm looking around for some gel-pad type things to mount it on and bejeebus i need a steering damper on it.

Apart from that, roll on croft on the 11th and cadwell on the 18th.

Wots the crack with Teeside autodrome? Is it a twisty course or just an oval? Surface ok etc??

I can see our lasses Golf GTI getting a good ragging round there! (might not go down wi her too well like as its going to be a 'show car' whereas I see it as a track car! :smt003 )

Cheers!

The car/bike track is the outer-most ring and takes about 40 seconds to get round.

I think you have to book in advance, but like i said there were 6 or 7 bikes and 1 car. max 2 bikes at a time, but when he saw we wernt loonys he let 4 on aslong as we didnt get too close. Ideal to test things out and £35 for 1-4pm didnt break the bank even if it was only maybe an hour on track. The car was an old classic alfa trailered there and was just doing 15mins then fiddling with tuning, then 15 mins again all by himself. The supervisor kept going out in his supra and practicing his drifting which was quite fun to watch.

erm, i dunno as I didnt sort it, but I would think just the week before. My mate drinks with the owner so its not a problem. I wouldnt get too excited though, its not as big as adrenalin rush as a trackday and they dont let you race - they wave frantically at you when you get too close but it is good to give the bike a good flogging without the worry of getting pulled.

We just paid on the day and signed some form I didnt bother reading :smt003

It's only mondays and tuesdays mind, so you'll need a day off. Pick a day and I'll get it sorted if youre interested and anyone is welcome to hammer the crap out of mine if they dont want to use their decent falco. Will finally prove red are the fastest.

I'll be up for it say toward end of june/beginning of july. I'm off to egypt in a few weeks and me bike needs mot'ed, new tyres etc so can't afford it all this month!

Day off is no prob for me (flexi!) so bang a date in and count me in. Whats everyone else think?

Cheers
