Looked under the left pipe around where the stand folds up and noticed this.
Is this normal or should it be round. I could take the mid section off and take this out if needed.

Normal
Accommodates the side stand
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Yes it's normal - and if you were to take that section of pipe off, you'd see another dent on the other side of it too.
This offended Mangocrazy so much that he had his tube re-made with a circular cross section.
I got rid of the problem too - by getting rid of the exhaust on the left of the bike .........

I love all the hype about exhaust position and size having to be spot on or it affects the dynamics of the engine, I am pretty sure that aprilias exhaust calculations were done a long time before they decided they needed to smack a dent in it to clear the sidestand.

Now that fits right in with my mechanical ability and understanding

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Yup - they asked Luigi (short arms, big hammer) to whack the exhaust as they came past him on the production line. Perhaps...
What pissed me off is that the sidestand would have cleared the exhaust even if Luigi hadn't been employed for that task...
Here's a whole thread dedicated to the topic...

Oi nicketynoo you've got bits falling off your bike mate.

I'm right 98% of the time so why worry about the other 3%?
