rear caliper bleeding woes

DOT 5 is silicon-based and is meant for vehicles that spend most of their time in storage, but need to be 'woken up' and used straight away (military vehicles, for example). As Andy said, use DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. DOT 4 is fine for 99% of requirements. If you're a racer, the slightly higher boiling point of DOT 5.1 may be useful.

My neighbour was having bother bleeding the brakes on his ZRX, he attached attached a long section of clear tubing to the bleed nipple, taped back the lever and sucked!! He said it worked fine, just keep an eye on the fluid level in the tube!

Hmnn Glasgow drinking brake fluid ... am I the only one not surprised :smt003 you did say it was his bike he was drinking from :smt002 so can't be a scouser
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

You will not have any issues with that. It is the caliper that is always the problem. Just consider the front lines....they are almost vertical but you can bleed them easily without trapped air in the lines, the air should travel up while the fluid travels down you may think, (not going to happen) The fluid is to thick to allow that and the only way it will happen is if you agitate it. SO back to the back lines Tilt the caliper and bleed it....You will be surprised at how quick it will work.

Spent a couple of hours on it today, still wont bleed up.
Ive fitted a new stainless bleed nipple, brand new bleed tube, getting some pressure on the pedal, not pulling any air through, no bubbles.
Could I have ragged the master cylinder seals when I let the resevior run out, in normal use the piston will only travel 1cm or so in the bore but depleting the fluid means the piston and seals travel further, maybe into a pitted area of the bore ?
Tryng not to thow toys out of pram now
