Fork Pre-load

#1 Post by beyond » Mon Apr 15, 2013 7:19 pm

I've rotated the nut all the way clockwise and anticlockwise but I never get any rings/notches showing. I have an '04 Falco.

Could this be because the oil is very old and needs replacing (I've no idea if the forks have ever been serviced) or is there something more seriously wrong?

With rebound fully wound on I am getting 35mm rider sag!

You've obviously got the Marzocchi forks then. All of the movement happens inside the fork leg - nothing goes up and down on the outside, just round and round - but it is still making the vital adjustments.

Also, rebound damping won't affect your sag - it's your pre-load adjustment you use for that.

Whoops, I meant pre-load, sorry, wonder if I can change the title...

Thanks for that D-rider. That means even the manual is wrong, talking about notches for the standard settings!

It did feel better on the way into work this morning but it's still not great, too much dive under initial breaking.

The manual was written at the time they fitted showa forks where you could see things moving up and down on the outside.

If you are getting too much dive on breaking, maybe you need a bit more compression damping - but go a bit at a time as you don't want it to be rock solid when you hit the bumps.
