Well done to everyone involved in the Biker Down course

Well done to Jim Sanderson & Kent Fire and Rescue Service who has been presented with a prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its innovative road safety project ‘Biker Down’.

The pioneering motorcycle safety course - launched in August 2011 and delivered out of Ashford Fire Station - was devised by KFRS’s Fire Bike team and was the first of its kind to be delivered by firefighters.

The award was presented to KFRSs Chief Executive Ann Millington and the team at Ashford Fire Station by Karen Cole, Director of Safety for the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA). This achievement was officially announced in December at the annual Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards ceremony in London.

MCIA Director of Safety Karen Cole said, “Biker Down is a marvellous initiative which can only help to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries by helping motorcyclists to assist others in the event of an accident. As a motorcyclist myself, I am delighted to present this award and would like thank everyone involved in this worthwhile scheme on behalf of the motorcycle industry.”
It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world than 30 years early in the next

Bloody good stuff.
It is a horrible site when you come across one of our brothers or sisters down and hurt.
TBH how many of us know how to respond correctly and safely ?
The only thing I know is to undo the chinstrap and dont move them unless its life threatening not to.
Be very good to know more

Biker down course

This is an excellent course to get on if you can.
I was lucky anoth to be picked to gone on it on the 2nd of may this year.
Heres there e-mail james.sanderson@kent.fire-uk.org if you live down near Ashford put your name down to attend the course it may take a while .

Yes I could do with more of you going on this :smt010 unfortunately

great idea I might mail him to see if my mate who is a fireman could start one up here

That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Sounds good. I hear that Randomsquid would consider going if the start were not too early as that would clash with his very popular Eider Down Course .....

funny I heard he was more likely to be be on the pillow biting course and if not he was often too tied up with other things still the idea of playing with all those firemen... :smt007 :smt008

The last time I spoke to Jim, he said the aim was to roll it out throughout the Country, and I believe Essex were looking to use the Kent template.

In other parts of the country I do know that there are what is called "First on Scene" course which I believe use the same template.
