Like to have a peruse of the campervan ads from time to time, plan what I'm going to buy next Friday when I win the lottery. Came across this in my travels, I'm sure Kwakerz and a couple of others on here will join me in appreciating how cool this is, none of your poxy aircooled VW nonsense...

That's a proper Man's vehicle, that is. £46k is a bit eye-watering though. It's probably worth it and you'd be able to take it on a round the world tour, but a bit rich for my blood...

On a completely unrelated note - how's the sealed Falco tank working out? Has the tank shrunk back to its former size, and have you experienced any problems?

Now THAT is a proper camper! Just need to lose those DAF inspired crappy Goodyears and get some proper old school Bedford tyres back on it...

The cab has two seats, extra thick carpets and a gun turret with checker plate below

I must admit, I thought the price was a tad spicy as well but it appears to have been done professionally and it is pretty unique.

Would be very good to do some proper travelling - you'd only need a REME toolkit* and fuel to keep you going forever.
*Black n nasty, cable ties, large hammer, Fospro.

As for the tank - the Falco fuel type that is - It appears to have shrunk back a little as it passes the top yoke easier and you can get the bolts in without needing 3 pairs of hands, but I haven't really tried to measure it accurately to quantify it. I must admit I haven't really got around to checking inside the tank yet - it is on my list of jobs to do which also contains many, many other things, and hopefully I will have a proper look when the weather improves. Must admit I am a little concerned with the horror story that was posted on the Septic's forum.

Probably end up being bought by some London antique dealer. Had a pal who was into that sort of thing probably to compensate for being a ladies hairdresser. Had Landrovers ( the proper ones) and a collection of grey Fergies

The Bedford MK's and MJ's started to be de-comissioned over 12 years ago. The engine is the same powerplant that is in the TK 6 cyl series, a wet liner engine where the block is prone to splitting between middle cylinders and all the usual wet liner engine warping problems.
I do know many folk that have bought MK's and MJ's with the intention of using them for forestry work ect. only to be very dissapointed,more go nowhere than anywhere vehicles.
Yes, a handsome truck but.... 46k

Look at Tatra, UAZ, GAZ Russian military stuff that goes anwhere for a lot less than 10k

Always tried to fall asleep on the way too the ranges

Just as I was asleep it was time to De-Bus!

Looks comfy and well kitted out. Alas, the engines were carp.... Groovy colour too boot.

Depends if it's loaded to the gunnals or not. Ive got pics somewhere of my Billy B in places on the prarie in Canada where even landrovers couldn't get.
Bedford 4t are fine half loaded and on the old school tyres.. but if youre going to buy a truck on the cheap you expect it to not perform. Theyre past their sell by date for MOD use, (which is light role compared to civvy street..) theyre cheap to buy for a reason!

Ex MOD stuff.. you can only guess what kind of life it's led. Usually when it falls apart just after you bought it !
There are some bagains to be had,stuff that has been held in reserve,you pays your money,you takes a chance !
Still think 46k for an MJ is beyond outragous,even with a winning lottery ticket

Depends where you want to go doesn't it. My daughter Lucy and Simon bought a fairly old Merc Sprinter that had been converted for Moto-X, ie it had a garage in the back and a workbench to fit on the side with a big awning, and the interior was a 2 person campervan - they spent 4 winters in the French alps and a summer in Tarifa (Spain), and it's still their daily driver when they go kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding around Southport/Ainsdale/Crosby beaches, and back and forth to Sheffield and Wolverhampton and Dorset visiting rellies!

I think it cost them around £6000 originally and they've spent a fair bit since on suspension etc - hardly surprising! But that's a long way short of £46k!
