Grief - thats enormous, as the .... said to the ..... Why does it take a screen so big, and if you'll forgive me, so ugly to deflect the wind on an 800 when the GS has one far smaller that works?

Had a second test ride on an 800 this weekend and again was impressed by most of the bike. Lovely engine, good gears, good seat ( the low one) but again the buffeting at head level was unacceptable. I had less buffeting on the screen-less America I tried at the same dealer. And the ride was a bit hard by comparison with the Beemer, normally not a problem but it doesnt seem to be adjustable at least on the roadie.

So I'm left in a quandary - 1200GS second hand or 800 new. Which? Got to admit I'm leaning towards the GS.

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

I'm watching this with interest as I too am looking at Tiger 800 roadies although I haven't committed to a test ride yet. I love the colour change, Kiwi; much better in black. I did test the updated GS a couple of years ago and was left impressed but not enthused. I preferred the character of the Tiger 1050 that I also tested but hesitated because of buffeting and a high seat height. Then, on impulse, I bought a K1200R Sport. The K is amazing but I'm considering something lighter and more suited to exploring backroads. I also fancy taking a bike on a trailer when my wife and I go off for a few days in the car and the K isn't the easiest thing to load and unload on your own. I should admit that my wife has not yet approved this embryonic plan! Having watched a few Tiger forum threads, my impression is that fewer people suffer from buffeting with the 800 than the 1050 and more of them have found a cure by fitting the Madstad or other aftermarket screen.

Maybe it wasn't the best angle. I have the 18" madstad screen. It is only a couple of inches taller then the original. When sitting on the bike I have a clear view over the top. It also looks better in the flesh.
