anybody got a triumph 800 xc?

thinking of buying one but would like to know what they are like in real life. anyone got one?

didnt there used to be a Triumph version of this site?

I can't help you there but I'll watch your progress with interest. I sat on both the XC and the roady 800 and they both felt just right. In fact, I declined a test ride because I suspected that I might end up doing the deed and that wouldn't have pleased Her Indoors. I particularly fancied the road version with the 19" front. I'm also looking forward to checking out the 1200 Explorer when the weather improves but I'm sure the 800 Tiger is all the bike anyone needs. Keep us posted!

I work with someone who has one he bought it has an in between bikes scenario...
Thing is he loves it and has no intention of selling soon

I currently have the Fireblade for sale and a 800 roadie lined up at work, 1200 m, 1 year old. £6000 with arrow can and heated grips

test road one and liked it. Only problem was the buffeting from screen. Lots about it on www.tiger800.co.uk
I plan to get a Madstad screen from the US which appears to solve the problem.

I know two people with them and they both think they are great bikes. Debz has had a test ride on one as well and loved it.

have you got the bike and are you using that screen. Been away sailing most of the summer ( ???) so still havent done the deed myself.

Hi,
Yes I have the Triumph 800 Roadie now.
When I first rode it I didn't really notice the buffeting. My mate suffers from short leg syndrome and had a lowered seat and lowered links on the bike. I put it all back to normal and the buffeting came back. So I purchased the Madstad screen from the US. Does it make a difference? Yes. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the position right. I went for the 18" sport screen. It also come with "deflectors" which I've put on for winter but will take off again come the glorious summer!
Still happy with it. I reckon I can ride it as quick as I could the blade but not without the looney top speed. I plan to fit Pilot Road 3's to it as don't really have 100% confidence in the on/off road Scorpions.
I'll wash it tomorrow and stick a piccy on.

somehow you dont really sound quite convinced about the screen.

when I tried the bike I found it badly affected by crosswinds compared to what I remember of the 1200GS I had. but whether that was because I was expecting buffeting or because it actually was buffeting , I dont know. Presumably your short pal didnt have the issue because his head was lower in relation to the top of the screen than yours is.

Well some people have said they can ride at 80 mph with their visors up. I did get to that point but the top of the screen was distracting as it was right up in my line of sight. I now have it lower so no buffeting but no visor up at 80.
Also I think the fact the bike is essentially un-faired so there is more wind then I got on either the Blade or Falco so that's taking some getting used to.

It's not a straightforward issue is it? Today I tried three bikes - a Honda CBF1000 and two BMs, a GS1200 and a GS 650. The Honda was a pain with little wind protection. The 650 GS was better despite a much smaller screen. The big GS was best of all but I could not work ,out why.

Triumph is next week for a second road test.

Got to admit I am leaning towards another 1200GS.

When you had a problem with the cross winds could it have been because of the lightness compared to the GS.
I WILL wash it tomorrow and post a pic. I've been using it for work lately and it seemed pointless to wash it then get it mucky next day.
Where are you? I don't mind meeting up if you want a looksie.

Madstad screen.................................................With Deflectors ...................................................................................................................... Without Deflectors

Also fitted the Motech handguards. The plan is to take off the handguards and deflectors in summer
