New Indicators

#1 Post by Falco9 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 2:57 pm

Its obviously a matter of personal taste but IMHO the standard indicators on the falco leave a lot to be desired in terms of appearance, they date the bike and look far too big

On my previous Falco I swapped them for Tuono indicators but when I got my Tuono I then swapped to these Shiver indicators (below)

So whilst waiting for the weather to improve allowing me to get some work done on the Falco I saw some Shiver indicators for sale on eBay from the Rocket centre in Blackburn (Aprilia main dealer)

I asked them what the best deal they could do on a set of four would be (these are the same indicators fitted to the RSV4) and £26 was the reply

I picked them up today and they are brand new (of course) still in the bubble wrap and inc the bulbs. They also have exactly the same mounting as the Falco ones and you can use the same fixings to boot.

I reckon £26 is an absolute bargain (IMHO) but it is worth pointing out you need to use the Falco wiring as the block connectors are different (smaller) on the new indicators. Its a very easy job to do though, you just remove the indicator lens and reflectors from both the old & new indicators. Then remove the 2 electrical connectors from the back of each reflector and remove the wires from both indicators. Swap them over and voila!. Its a 5 min job per indicator max

I thought I'd mention it to my fellow ARS members as others may also fancy a cheap upgrade without having to butcher the wiring or add resistors to use other indicators etc... The parts man there said they sell literally hundreds of these indicators across the country

I like the look of them. I have Motrax indicators and have been very disappointed with them - they seem to work only when they want and the flash rate is all over the place.

So what if you don't have the standard indicators to swap the wiring across? Would they still fit or would they need new wiring?

Nice one, Rich. I see a set of those in my Falco's immediate future (I'm psychic like that...)

They would still fit of course as thay have the same mounts as the standard Falco indicators but you may need to adapt the wiring to suit whatever you've done to fit the Motrax ones. I'm no leccy expert (I leave all of that black magic stuff to Tweaker & Andy) so without knowing what you've done to do to fit the Motrax ones I couldn't advise you.

In essense what I'm saying is that if your bike still has the std indicators and connectors these are almost a straight swap with no wire cutting or other non aprilia connectors needed

Nice deal Rich and a big improvement on the originals, I just refitted mine to pass an inspection and damn they're not nice.

The one criticism I have is the use of orange bulbs behind the clear lens. I recon it looks like a fried egg. You can get chrome bulbs that glow orange that dramatically improve the look. Just my opinion, but I'll have a look for the supplier I used in the past and post it up in case anyone has similar views.

Google chrome indicator bulbs and you'll find loads, but be careful of the wattage.

I put these on my falco, but had to drill / enlarge the hole in the front fairing a bit. 5mm or so. I bought them from ebay off a dorsoduro

I fitted my Shiver indicators today and had to do the same thing! I was sure after mesuring them they would be a straight swap as the dimensions are the same but the bodies are slightly different so apologies for my earlier incorrect claim of them being a "straight" swap

I used my dremel with a small carbide stone fitted and it took about a minute or so to ease out the hole for them to fit, well worth it though as I reckon they look a whole lot better (IMHO)

Jayzuz, they look huge on the bike! Still better than the OE orange banjos though.

I'm fairly certain the newer BMW bike indicators will fit our mounting holes, don't know about the connectors, but the dinky OE BMW LED indicators look quite smart. I notice the F650 and 800GS use the same mirrors as the Tuono, so maybe there's other bolt on parts compatibility?

Pssssst. Motrax stuff is pretty shit, avoid it if you can.

Dunno for sure mate, but assuming they are the same as the O/E Falco items, you should be looking for a 10w item that has pins with no offsets in either diameter of distance from the base.

Either the BFG18.5C or the BF1156C should do the job, but there's no mention of the wattage that I could find, so to avoid dodgy flash rates you would need to make sure they are 10w not the normal 21w.
