Quick question about map/airbox mod

#1 Post by hornetrider » Thu Apr 05, 2007 12:16 pm

Okay, so I snipped the wire to the ECU (but noted that it looked like it had been re-soldered back on).

Took the top of the airbox off and there's no insert in there...

So.... theories? Was it the previous owner wanted to "undo" the mod at the ECU but left the airbox insert out? Any ideas?

Don't know but wouldn't worry about it, nearly all UK spec Falcos were delivered to cutomers with the restrictors removed and the wire snipped.
Most people never have to do anything but it is always worth checking to see if done. Can't think why anybody would want to solder it back, but if all is standard in the ECU you are correctly set up, so should be OK.
Try it and see how it goes, should notice a slight improvement.

Yeah I had a quick blast up the dual carriageway at lunchtime - first ride since I snipped the wire. Pulls like a train! Can't remember how different it was to last time though, as last time was a week ago. Should have done back to back rides to compare I guess!

Anyhoo, cheers for that, it all seems good now!

Nope, mine was fully restricted and I ran it in with the restrictions in place.

Seems to vary from place to place.

Millies had an airbox restrictor but the Flaco never had one. Ony derestriction is the cutiing of the wire. Mine arrived with it intact and it got snipped at first service. The Aprilia mech said that this was the recomended practice as it limited the motor during running in

I beg to differ, Mine was restricted and I had it de-restricted at the 500/600 mile ripoff service. That is, the wire cut and the plate removed. I could hear the differance in the induction (just a bit louder) and when I have had the air box out you can see the tangs where the restrictor plate was fitted. :smt001

mmm .....

Both Falco and Mille had airbox restrictors BUT the Mille also had restrictors in the exhaust.

My Falco had airbox restrictor in place and wire intact when delivered. The restrictor was removed and the wire cut at the first service (at my request). The dealership said they normally derestrict at pdi and were not sure why mine hadn't been. Didn't bother me - first 600 miles to get used to the bike then a performance upgrade.

Nope - clear shots straight down the trumpets.

Summits weird here. Bought baby new so I am definately sure she never had a restrictor in the airbox - only the wire :smt017

The restrictor is not on the trumpets but a plate with a resriction tube at the top of the 'snorkel' on the inlet to the airbox.

The bit you remove is part number 8 in this picture - it sits under the air filter.
