Keeping in touch

#1 Post by BikerGran » Tue May 08, 2012 6:14 pm

... while I'm away.

Can't afford a laptop or a fancy tablet, found this one - I know that if something looks too good to be true it usually is but I wondered if anyone knows anything about these - there doesn't seem to be any maker's name.

Android tablet

It doesn't have to be fantastic, I just want to be able to check my emails and have a look at Facebook.

Low processor speed, crap build, cheap for a reason

You'd fare better with a second hand web book (small laptop) or an ipad (omg.. i recommended an ipad...) from one of the highstreet pawnbrokers.. at least theyd come with a few months warranty.

Theyll be unsupported so any probs, youre on your own, theyll be on an outdated operating system which wont update..

AVOID!

if you want to research your tablet, its a

Wondermedia WM 8650 tablet

Erm, we don't have any of those - at least, if we do I have no idea where!

You get what you pay for

If you want to get something with a warranty and will give you remote access to email then look at either a PAYG mobile dongle that plugs into a cheap netbook or small laptop

If you want a tablet then have a look at the blackberry ones - they are so cheap and are not bad bits of kit - combine it with a very cheap deal and that could be a winner

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Cheap is relative - I'll manage without! (OAPs here!)

If you are in the uk use the libraries. It's not like you old folk have anywhere else to go for free heating ... If you get lucky there may even be one of those talks in you know where they drone on and on but you get free tea and biccies! Ah the long past joys of exploiting the welfare state
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

You ever tried to find the Library in an unfamiliar town? I have - and if you eventually do, it's always closed!

Great advice from our health-care professional on obtaining blackberry flavoured tablets.

TBH If it's just keeping in touch with emails and farcebook, an Android phone will do the job. They do come in a variety of prices - pre-used ones on PAYG (eg on GiffGaff) can work out quite reasonable.

I'm just awkward you see, a phone is too small for my fingers - and my eyesight!

But I'll survive I guess, I am going to a couple of places where I can borrow a computr for a few minutes!

Tablets wont use a dongle, a netbook (small laptop) will.
