MoonWalk 2012

#1 Post by D-Rider » Sun Apr 29, 2012 11:22 pm

You're all familiar with Sam's Bar ..... well this is more about Joy's Bra .....

I think most are familiar with the fact that about 13 years ago my wife, Joy had breast cancer and that last year was diagnosed that it had returned ... with the inevitable prognosis for secondary cancers ......

Anyway, the status at present is that she is responding well to treatment and for the time being, the tumour is shrinking.
She's about to embark on another bit of fund-raising for breast cancer research and in a fortnight's time will be doing the MoonWalk.
Despite the name, she assures me she will not be mooning :smt053 but, along with 15,000 other participants will be walking a half-marathon at night in her bra!

...... just like this (random picture from a previous year's event)
Image

The fact that she is able to do this is quite remarkable as her tumour surrounded one of her airways and essentially stopped a lung from working (that's how we found there was something wrong with her).
A few months ago she was struggling to walk up a slight incline yet now she's about to walk 13 miles. We got over the psychological hurdle of walking that distance on Saturday when I took her for a 10 mile practice ..... she coped well with that (but is aching like mad today).

Anyway, without sponsors, a sponsored charity walk is just a walk so we're letting our friends know so that they can sponsor if they wish to do so (but we only want them to if they can afford it and want to do it).

So if anyone on here wants to support her efforts, her sponsorship page can be found here: I have noticed that some of her friends have sponsored her most generously - don't feel that what some people have sponsored online is some sort of "going rate" - it really isn't.

I am her "support team" and will be rushing round cheering her on, handing her energy bars and taking embarrassing pictures.

The link doesn't work for me Andy, but your and my paths should meet very shortly and I'd like to contribute then.

good for her!

I tend to supper the local cancer charities/events - so will continue to do that but will have a thought if that makes sense

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I'm a regular supporter of CancerUK but on the basis that every little helps - both in the fundraising and encouragement department - made a little donation!

Goog for Joy - and I'm glad to hear she's well enough to contemplate doing this, long may it last!

I've no means of sponsoring electronically, but I've got to come and see you soon anyway. If it's possible, I'll leave a cash donation with you. :smt002

Don't worry Pete - my support role extends to covert cameraman (probably best if I don't tell her I'll be taking pics ....)
I had planned to post up pics afterwards.

..... This always assumes I can spot her amongst the 15,000 taking part .... at night .... in the dark.
