Ebay

#1 Post by blinkey501 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 7:20 am

I have to admit that in the past i have posted links to ebay and stuff that is on there for the falco and mille parts compatable for the falco...
That was when i first started on ridersite and looking back i realise that other forum members might have been cross with wanting to limit the amount of people knowing about the stuff on ebay and perhaps get a bargain.
I can accept that if one of the members is trying to sell stuff on ebay and wants to post a link then i don't think that is a problem.
All i can say is that if people want to look for things then let them spend the time on ebay.
I apologise to those who was looking at stuff on ebay has i did'nt realise the limited amount of decent falco spares needed to improve the looks and handling for these bikes when i first came on..
Now am i the only person that thinks we should agree not to post links and let people do there homework?

This is not a rant just an obsevation :smt002

No, don't worry about it.

A while back I tried to suggest that we shouldn't post up about ebay stuff and therefore "give away" that special little something that one or two members had been quietly stalking for a week or more.

I got my bum firmly kicked for suggesting such a thing. The forum spoke and the forum said that if you see something on ebay, post it up.
That's what has been happening ever since - by posting these links, you've only been doing what the forum expects you to do.

Here's the thread where we discussed this and the result of the poll - it was rather clear:

I can see both sides of the argument, I posted the "panniers" link to e-bay the other day, I thought I was doing people a favour as I didn't want them but I thought others would appreciate it.

The forum admins could create a group and dump all the links there.

It comes down to this, if you put the link up the people who own Falcos will see them but will this eventually push up prices as things become scarcer.

I did notice one thing, the rack and panniers went for £165 and by coincidence another set turned up with a buy it price it of £165

£165!!!

Bloody hell. They were going for 100-120 when I was idly looking a few years ago.

speaking as possibly the number one vulture on this forum, i rarely look here for links to evilbay - well - evilbay UK at any rate :)

I think the balance now is about right - some things get posted, some do not.

I tend to share things with specific people - for instance i know who wants a tank bag atm, and when turns up I will let them know.... recently I knew where a clear tail light was - and then some one needed one...

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I can see both sides of this too but as someone, as many of us are that watches for things then often as sson as I see it posted here I stop watching as I know it is going for more money .
I think the issue is we are all vultures after similar stuff and once it gets posted then it becones a competition whereas if it isn't you get a better chance of getting something at a better price.
There is no avoidance of the competition once it is out there however I do similar to Pete and I also have gentlemans agreements where we dont bid against each other ... after all whats the point it just means one of you is going to pay more than you needed to.
Now I recognise it is human nature but it is a bit nuts and more to the point it isn't just the active people that can see the links.

I would suggest having somewhere where you can clearly say WTB and people can send you links direct or on the post if they want as a compromise but personally I tend to agree with Jay it is really frustrating watching something bidding on it and then finding out it was one of us,!
It is almost worth saying hey see this link I am bidding on this anyone object ? and then ok I am only going up to 40 sheets then it is yours

A bit of camaraderie and communication I guess at least on the important stuff .. like I need a new tyre yeah but I want one for a sparte I would always say over to you fella you need it I just want it

sorry just woke up at work so bit of a ramble but I hope you get the gist
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

I don't think the arguments are any different to when we debated them before - except there's definitely a lot more Falco stuff for sale than there was back then. I think we're now at the stage that more of them are being broken.

When we voted on this, the forum was very clear that it wanted to post the links - I can't see what has changed to suggest doing things differently.

TBH I'd be pretty pissed off if we changed it now having had to endure the revealing of parts I was staking out at the time I was looking for stuff.
{Though I guess I'd get over it - and will always bow to to desires of the collective forum ..... well, mostly}

I for one am happy to tell people that I am bidding on something as I always set a price that I think is fine and after that I don't bother.

In a sense it comes down to the individual there are some who will spot something and not let on and others who think they are doing people a favour.

I feel for D-rider as this thread could diisapear up it's own backside as it's been debated before.

Personaly I think that posting links is a good thing & would do it It helps the seller & as a buyer you don`t miss an item that you would want.

Personally I wanted a double boat trailier & someone posted a link to one on e bay ( another forum surprisingly) :smt002 & I got a nearly new double dinghy trailer for a NICE price so I say post the links it is good for both sides.

ello bert

you are in the ridersite homeland of norfolk - where abouts?

and please say what you think your budget is for a falco - we will spend more than that but....

oh - and people should not be worried about going over this discussion - or for that matter any other one - it's your forum :)

the debate andy linked too was... interesting - not just what was posted, but some of the conversations around as well

I also think there is more standard falco stuff around - but some of the rarer things are getting harder to find - certain after market exhaust systems are very rare for instance - as, it seems, is luggage!

E bay & lurking

#12 Post by bert » Tue Apr 10, 2012 3:13 pm

Hi All

I am idealy positioned in Norwich :smt006 ,

No one comes here unless they are losed or captured by the locals for spare human organs.

I work away every now & again so you might spot a bit of "overseas" lurking going on for a while after friday.

Price wise for the bike appox £3ooo for a fully sorted bike & I have seen the fully sorted bike north of the border but will not be going that way till late April - early May for a course in Aberdeen.

If the bike is still available at that time then I would be interested & would try to arrange to drop in for a test ride & check over.

BTW, there are a few Falcos for sale on the forum at present :smt002
