Falco dash clock lcd speedo faulty? is it fixable?

#1 Post by Blackranger68 » Mon Feb 27, 2012 11:55 pm

Got a problem with my spedo on my falco, the numbers on the left speedo display have half disappeared and there is a visable shadow of all the functions on the lcd screen. Does anyone know what could be wrong and possible fixes?

Iv taken the clocks apart thinking that there was a problem with the lcd display and replaced it but its still the same..... :smt017

Not had one apart myself - however I wonder whether the LCDs are connected via zebra strip and it has got displaced.

As another thought, it might be moisture related

My money is on the Zebra strip too.

I had that happen when I took mine apart and rebuilt it.

The zebra strip is the rubbery rectangle that makes the connection between the pcb and the lcd if it gets a little out of whack you get the symptoms you describe. Just take the strip out an put it back in again until it works properly.

Might be worth cleaning the zebra strip contacts when you do this. A quick wipe with some meths should do the job (though don't tell Sam - he'll think you're having a party)

Ok guys, tried what you said some of the shadows on the LCD have disappeared now, but the spedo and mileage reading still have parts of the numbers either very faint or not visable at all... :smt017

Any other suggestions as to what could be the cause, D Rider suggests might be moisture related, but the unit looks dry. any ideas what could have got damp?

keep trying, the contacts are very small and it's easy for them to be mis-aligned.

I've got a couple of spares you can try, but might take a while to get to you, let me know

I'm still more inclined towards the zebra strip - particularly as you've already had some success there. It can sometimes be a bit tricky to get it aligned properly.
As Dale says, keep going with that for a while.
