Cheap insurer?

#1 Post by hornetrider » Thu Mar 29, 2007 3:01 pm

Hi Guys, just shopping around for quotes at the moment - cheapest I've found is 310 TPF+T which is :smt009 as far as I'm concerned.

Fully comp goes up to 700 plus! Based on 3k miles a year. I'm 32 ffs, not 21!

Apparently my wooden garage with ground anchor in my back garden doesn't count as a garage (must be brick) and my Hornet policy no-claims can't be used.

Also tried to add the Falco to the Hornet policy, but the underwriter has (since I took out the policy) started insisting on a brick garage, so I can't change the T's and C's of my existing policy at all, grrrr

What insurance group is it? To be honest, I didn't do any insurance research before buying the bike :smt010

No question i'd go to Bike Team. Just redone my insurance and even with all the mods (Ohlins, Mille wheels, Gilles, PCIII, K&N, Blue Flames etc etc) the total price for the bike fully comp with no claims protection for a 36 yr old was £232 with legal cover, amazing. Very helpful people, ask for Mark Davies.

Thanks for the tips, Biketeam online quote comes up with 480 TPF+T

God knows how insurance is calculated. Thats no no claims, no claims history, held licence for 5 years, 3 points for a SP30 in 2002, kept in a locked building at my address in Bristol.

I'm in the wrong business :smt010

It is a lottery. All you can do is ring around everyone for quotes each year ... but always check the cover is the same.
There are savings to be found usually.

Bennetts always come up with best price for me, and I like sponsoring all those Bike shows on Motors TV etc :smt003
They call it mellow yellow.

Yeah, my Hornet is through Bennetts (98 quid TPF+T!), just gutted that my existing policy can have multiple bikes but the underwriter now says they won't insure anyone without a brick built garage, bonkers.

So, I've gone from paying a bit extra to top up to a 2 bike policy, to having to fork out for a completely seperate policy, arse :smt013

just renewed my insurance today through express insurance, got original renewal of £330 then done some phoning around today and got £288 from ebike, express phoned back tonight and theyve beaten it with £280 FC 8 years no claims and they are protected for 1 claim, so quite happy.
bennetts were really expensive over £500 with £500 excess!!! bennetts have allways been expensive for me even with the SV.

:smt001
Devitt insurance quoted me £132 online.
Admitted i'm the wrong side of 50 but they then rang me a few days later anknocked it down to £115.
They say online does not cover all their insurers, so could beat the price.
Don't know if they are buying business but it was £100 cheaper than Carole Nash wanted for renewal.

I've been with MotorcycleDirect for the last 5 years. They were fantastic when the falco got nicked but this year I'm afraid they just were not competitive enough to make me stay... A whole £100 off the mark :smt018 :smt018 :smt018 .

Ended up with Ebike - fully comp for £199 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

I think therein lies your problem. If you've not got any no claims then you aint going to get much discount. If you had full you'd be looking at less than half that figure. I'd also give them a call and not solely rely on the on-line whatsit. As I said, ask for Mark Davies and tell him they've been recommended and it might make a difference, if only a little.

Good luck.

H&R for me seem pretty reasonable and I'm sure they were happy with a wooden shed, although things change.
