What is stupid about it. He was still on the correct side of the road and it is clear he was not thrashing it, I would say near 60mph. The 4x4 driver was overtaking on a blind bend....
There are many cars out there that cut the corner. The bike was not in the wrong.

Not being in the wrong is no consolation as they bury you.
He wasn't positioned optimally to see as far ahead as possible.

... and his thick head was on the wrong side of the road.

A lot of us take the racing line and i am no exception. I agree it is not the best way but 90% of the idiocy is down to the 4x4 who should not have been overtaking on a blind corner. If it was a car coming in the opposite direction there would have been casualties. The guy on the bike reacted well IMO.

Surely the racing line would be out to the kerb and turn in to the apex?

... which is what we are all suggesting.

Seems to me no-one was really right but visibility must have been better than it looked in the vid or the rider wouldn't have been able to pull over so easily - lot of fuss about nothing!

I am not disputing that....he kept it tight but started wrong.
My point is that he is not doing anything wrong except that his body was over the line. He was not riding like an idiot. If he was then he would be dead.
There are days where i have ridden the perfect ride and then there are the days where everything goes wrong and i cannot get the bike to do what I want.
I just can't see the biker to be of any blame here except for the 'wrong line' which is a pointless obsevation. The focus should be on the pick-up driver who IMO is a complete twat.

i read / dip into this often, and having had my eyes opened by it - i think i know what the biker did that was wrong

DO NOT GETME WRONG - the car driver was a twat, but if he hits something, he does not care in his nice secure environment

in this instance, i refer to page 47 - zones of visibility

and yes, we all do try to take the race or smooth line - what many of us forget is that we only have one lane - not both!

The driver of the SUV was a selfish, impatient twat.

The rider of the lead bike was a selfish twat also. You can't treat a road as a track - racing lines have no place on the everyday road, unless you have a perfect view of the road ahead.

I'm glad the rider had the abillity to get out of that situation.

But alright for him to smash a couple of bikes (or cars) off the road because of them? I see it often and it pisses me right off. It's dangerous for them, and for other road users. Consideration for others (on or off the road) is not a trait of the modern cyclist.
