Scary and interesting article.

I would just like to point out RiderSite will not be going dark for a day but I wholly back them and the reasoning.

Another pointless act.

It will pass. It is forced upon the world by the media companies of the US and probably backed by the rest of the worlds media.

I would like to see them try and enforce it though, it will cost $billions per year to enforce properly.

(want to publicise the next Arab Spring using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or another site that potentially infringes? You’ve just provided the powers that be with an instant excuse and mechanism to shut you down)
The real reason behind the proposal I suspect; to stop the internet publication of 'home movies' depicting civilians being beaten and killed by their own military and police in the name of 'civic order'.

I thought wikipedia was the first to black out ... and SOPA now seems dead in the water.
The growing anti-SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) support that has swept through the gaming and Internet community found a very big ally today. With websites like Reddit and Wikipedia and gaming organizations like Major League Gaming prepared for a blackout on January 18th – the same day that the House Judiciary Committee hearing on HR 3261was scheduled in Washington, DC – President Barack Obama has stepped in and said he would not support the bill. SOPA has been killed, for now.

Stop it on one site, another pops up. The internet is so vast and stored all over the globe by virtually anyone they just won't be able to stop it. Force everything underground and the internet will become a darker place than it already is. Napster is a classic example.. I bet the problem of illegal downloads increased 10fold after that farce. Greed is the driving force behind this.. Same as everything else. Some people just can't see the wood for the trees.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

Interesting comment under the main article:
Not that I am suggesting anything here… but…

Have you seen Representative Lamar Smith’s Campaign Finances? Lamar Smith, is the one (and 12 others) responsible for the SOPA Act.

You can read all about his top contributors at http://www.votesmart.org/candidate/camp ... amar-smith (this is public information)

Does it surprise you that in the “Top Contributors” list are many media companies and others that have large investments in such markets?

I am not suggesting anything at all…
So it's the same as mandatory ABS on bikes legislation being pushed through Euroland by the ABS manufacturers, and the UK's compulsory seatbelt ruling being pushed through parliament by the MP who's husband was director for the country's largest seatbelt manufacturing company.
